Madame Bovary is definitely not a book that is beyond criticism. Most of the characters were one-dimensional and I felt that a little bit more of character work was needed especially in the case of Emma, the protagonist. However, I am a little biased because a fallen woman story is my absolute favorite thing to read. I feel that 85% of nineteenth century marriages were like Emma's, we just got one of the worst versions of them in this...

I found the book is gripping though many times I just want to stop reading any further...no matter where I left reading and resumed after long time I always found it easy to relate to the last part.....the flow is easy and gripping...among all the characters I really feel bad for little Berthe....they could think about her a little instead of always thinking of themselves....specially Emma....sorry to say but she was a strange kind of lady....she made me angry but still I wished to go to her made her understand a few things she was doing wrong...I felt sad for her....Overall it's a really nice presentation of how neighbors are like good and nosy both

I love associating songs to books and I feel like this song would hit Emma in the feels: https://youtu.be/35Ol1K-Jj8k

Good for her!
medium-paced

It's a classic so it was worth reading but I read it kind of distracted and didn't understand it much. great writing style!

Can I just say that I didn't expect to relate to Emma, a French, Victorian adulteress as I did? Why did I care about what happened to her? She lies through her teeth, disregards her family, and seems never to be happy even though she gets everything she wants. I think it's because we all come to a point in our lives when we feel we can never be happy. Emma romanticizes the future, the past, and is consumed by attachment to things, people, and ideals. I've been there. We've all been there. This is one of the books that lodges itself into your heart. It reminds you that happiness is found not in clinging and grasping for things that are temporary. Madame Bovary's downfall is something we can all relate to.

Emma som en Helena skikkelse og Charles som Menelaus
Jeg kunne lave et helt karakter studie på dette og elske hvert øjeblik

Wow. Shocking and captivating. I was not expecting any of it. I didn't think this book was going to have such a raw ending. Loved it.
