Very descriptive, many good themes. Very engaging.

Last of the Mohicans meets Outlander. Wonderful historical fiction of the time in the New World before the revolutionary war. Great characters, lovely vivid settings. Could also be categorized loosely as historical romance and not for young readers.

DNF 569 pages in, took over two months, and officially decided to call it quits. Finished two other books during this time. Could not finish this one.

This is a very good story that kept me engaged from start to finish. As far as it being equal to the Outlander series I'll just say I see how some think it's similar, but I put Outlander out of my mind as I read so I could appreciate the story for 'its' story. The story was well written and edited (which means a LOT to me.)

There were a couple places where the story-line seemed to fade and lose direction and in those places the author interjects awkward babble that left me scratching my head wondering "where are we going?" I label this kind of dribble as filler to make the story longer - but this story didn't need any filler as it was huge.

I didn't like Elizabeth for most the story. I thought she was petty, impetuous and immature for being 29.

The only other aspect of this story that became fingernails on a chalkboard or a festering splinter that won't come out and that was the nickname the author chose for Elizabeth - Boots? What??? This is a romance and you can't imagine any other nickname that would conjure romance outside Boots?

Loving...thanks Jodi!

And loved. I didn't know this until I got home from the library, but this book takes place pretty much in the town I used to live in. A couple hundred years earlier, but hey, I related. This book brought me back to the books I read when I really fell in love with reading. Just wonderful.

This book was a real mix, as it started out, what I found to be, painfully slow.
I wasn't particularly drawn in by the characters initially, and I found the main romance of the book came on too fast (it was definitely insta-love).
It wasn't until I was half way through the book until the pace of the story picked up and I started being excited to read on. However, once things started to happen, they were all happening at once. By the end of the book it was feeling predictable that I was going to turn the page and something bad was going to be happening to the main characters again.
I started out finding our protagonist Elizabeth a little dull, however as the book progressed her character changes significantly for the better. The author does do a good job at making all of the side characters fleshed out, giving a real sense of being in a small town.
Giving 3 stars as I did enjoy the middle 1/3 of the book, but I found getting into it slow, and the ending unsatisfying. Overall I didn't enjoy it enough to want to read the next book in the series.

I liked the idea of this book but I don’t think it’s the best audio book. The audiobook was 30 hours long and I could not stay invested in the plot. There was also so many subplots and so much happens that I often wanted to turn back and clarify what ~exactly~ happened in the past. The story has potential and I think I will probably read the next one and see if it grabs me more. If you like historical romance with a very large world, you will like this one.

This is book is so rich in characters, world building and plot. There were slower moving parts and others that I could hardly read fast enough. The strength of this novel lies in it's characters. Elizabeth and Nathaniel are an incredible couple. Elizabeth is a strong sensible heroine whom I just adore. Nathaniel is awesome and gives room for Elizabeth for her opinions and advice like few other books I have ever read. Hannah,Curiosity,Richard, Many-Doves,Falling-Day, Runs-from-Bears not a single character felt left out or just there to propel the plot. Each character was fleshed out and I can honestly say that Into the Wilderness has one of the best casts of characters I have ever read. I highly recommend this book and also a hint if you have never seen The Last of the Mohicans go watch that movie because it will explain and give background to this story.

4 star story but ohhh my goodness the slowest of slow burns. The ending is also super abrupt, almost like the printer ran out of paper so they were just like cool we’ll just end it here.
