Fantastic read! Beautifully written with exciting characters!

A lovely and long story that had me hooked almost from the beginning. With a brief mention of Claire, the story gives realistic look at the options for women during the era.

I wanted to like this book it started off interesting but that around page 100 started getting boring I was interested in the love story between Nathaniel and Elizabeth but it had so much filler characters filler chitchat it was just so boring I couldn’t finish I gave up at about page at 300

Not only a well-written and deeply detailed story of early America, a squee-worthy continuation of The Last of the Mohicans movie!

Some find Nathaniel's dialogue stilted, however, if you keep in mind the way Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis) spoke from the movie, it's dead-on. Nathaniel and Elizabeth are slightly more reserved than the great romantic couple comparisons, but I find it a refreshing counterpoint: not every great romance has to be spelled out in such obvious passion. There's is a quieter romance given life through the wilds of the American frontier.

Lots of little "Easter eggs" woven into the book for Jane Austen fans, too.

Highly recommend for fans of [b:Outlander|10964|Outlander (Outlander, #1)|Diana Gabaldon|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402600310s/10964.jpg|2489796]

enjoyed this. it’s not Outlander, but i can definitely see the comparison.

A really good read- not as great as Outlander, but mightily close. I read it in just a few days! I can't wait to read the next one.

Totally absorbing and engaging story. There were some grammar things though that really made my blood boil because I am a grammar nerd. Why did an editor not catch the fact that "could of" was used constantly when it should be "could've?" Small complaint though overall it's a fun and engaging story, a great summer read.

I was encouraged to read this because I love the Outlander series and one of my favorite characters makes an appearance, though only in name. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if my mind hadn't been pushing a reading slump and I refused to put this down in spite of it. The characters are well formed, Elizabeth had me grinning more than one. The chemistry between her and Nathaniel is undeniable. And the plot is interesting, though in parts I would say that it dragged some...but that might also be the reading slump talking. I look forward to continuing onto the next book at some point.
