An enjoyable read, especially if you like historical romance as a genre. I like the setting and descriptions, but thought that the relationship between the leads wasn't actually very deep after the first half of the book. For me, this novel lost a little steam about half way through, and I had to check it out multiple times in order to finish it, because it was just a little slow. I thought there were a few too many mini-climaxes and problems, and would have preferred spending more time in the domestic life at their home before the next problem arrived to ground the story in a sense of stability before it got ripped away, to better understand what was at stake. Still, all in all, an enjoyable read.

It was an excellent historical romance- realistic, and loving. My only complaint was that it was so long, I felt like it was almost tedious to read.
I saved a damaged copy of "Into the Wilderness" from my local library last year and it is now much loved and cared for on my bookshelf. Where do I start! I think this book is wonderful, I'm only half way through the entire series because I am trying to savour every minute as I know there won't be any more after "The Endless Forest". Donati is a beautiful writer who doesn't slack in her vivid descriptions of the landscapes she covers whether it be the family cabin in up state New York or Scotland. I would recommend this book to anyone, just don't be put off by the size of the book! Trust me you'll be begging for it to go on forever!
Excellent historical fiction set in the New York frontier in the late 18th century. Love the nod to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander near the beginning. I will definitely continue/finish this series.
I'm sort of embarrassed to have read this, even though the story was so good, because the love scenes were, well, intense. Reader beware! ;)
