Such a great book. I loved Nathaniel and Elizabeth and their story - it grabbed me immediately. The rest of the cast of characters was great as well - a variety of different types of people with different dimensions to each of their characters - you feel invested in each of their lives because they feel like real people. The story was compelling and enjoyable. Clearly a talented author. Can't wait to start the next one in the series.
I can't really say this was all that great. I was interested in the characters but it left me cold. I kept thinking the author wanted to be Diana Gabaldon. Funny thing was - not quite halfway through the novel Donati threw in a story-telling glimpse of two of Gabaldon's creations, including Claire Fraser. I was startled. I guess the authors know each other.
The main redeeming factor was the main character of Elizabeth -- a good, strong woman. Not the stereotypical romance novel heroine who might be strong, but still falls for a hunky but obnoxious chauvinist. Bleah. No, Elizabeth manages to snag a halfway decent man and remain her own woman in the process.
And all the bad guys get their comeuppance except one who I imagine needs to hang out for the sequel.

I loved this book so much. Every time I thought the story was over it would pick up the next part and suck me right back in. Very interesting look into life in the wilds of New York in the 18th Century. I also loved the shout out to the Outlander characters.
I love a good historical novel and this one was no exception. Set in America shortly after the Revolutionary War, the story follows an English woman and her adventures in the new world. The story had a similar vibe to Outlander (and the author even gave a small reference to Outlander in the text). It was a much longer text than I anticipated, but I enjoyed it. Some parts moved too slow, while others were rushed over but overall this was a great historical fiction and it is the first in a series of novels following the same characters.
I am loving this book!! I know the reviews are seriously mixed out there. And I guess if I were some freakish history buff, I might be able to spot all of the little missteps on the author's part...but I'm not! So, I just get to enjoy it for the really amazing love story that it is. I'm pretty stoked about that.
I know that this book is compared to Outlander but it is not alike. A tale that picks up approximately 35 years after the end of the movie The Last of the Mohicans. It has a strong lead female and the story takes you in directions you didn't expect. Worthwhile read.

I read this book because so many people have compared it to Outlander. Unfortunately, this book is no where in the league of Outlander. I found this book was 50% longer than it needed to be. The story basically wraps up halfway though and the rest of the book is just filler and/or set up for the next book in the series. For me this was just a run of the mill historic fiction genre book. I didn't love it, I didn't totally hate it. I won't be reading the rest of the books in the series.
I loved this book. The characters were really brought to life and the whole book just sucked me in.
