I loved this series so much. I did originally pick up the normal vol. 2, so I was very confused when the story just abruptly stopped. I then was able to request the definitive edition, and I'm glad I did because it kind of rounds out the series. Still left with some questions, and I wish there were more to read, because I really loved all the characters.

I think I liked this volume better than the first volume. Lots of domestic sweetness. I do really wish we got more of Jain’s backstory!

Plenty of cute and endearing moments in this volume, but, as I said in my review of the first volume, it failed to raise any serious dilemmas. The potential for telling modern versions of classic western faerie tales with more themes of gender, class, sexual, and racial inequality is huge in this series, but it never lives up to its potential. All of the problems are solved so obviously that it felt like the author was holding my hand the entire way along the path. This seems a stark and disappointing contrast to most faerie tales I've read.

I loved this book. Reread the first one because I couldn't remember anything and I loved it just as much as the first time. Book 2 is just as splendid! Great illustrations...clear, detailed, very realistic. And the story or should I say stories are wonderful... mix of fantasy, folklore, and everyday human struggles and joys! I want to keep reading these forever!

Like a warm hug.
We catch up with the inhabitants of the Castle as they explore the castle, get a girl a wardrobe, make a cross and play ninepins.
Some backstory for a few of the characters is also shown.
Anything they do in this cozy fantasy is interesting

You don't finish reading Castle Waiting. You wake up from the dreamlike trance as the fairytale falls away, leaving the soul soothed by storytelling.

It's a book for those of us who wish the plot would get out of the way so we can enjoy the indulgence of characters. The deliciously decadent digressions are explored through exquisitely expressive art, wherein the labor of love is evident in every line. It is truly beautiful in every sense of the word.

Also, there's an abbey full of bearded nuns.

Highly recommended.

Just finished the feminist fairy tale Castle Waiting, vol I and II. It’s a graphic novel that tells the story of a castle that’s past it’s hey-Day (the Sleeping beauty castle) and is seen as a place of sanctuary. The characters living in the castle all came together in unique ways and the story flashes back in time to show each character’s backstory. In the first half of volume I, Jain is pregnant traveling to the castle for a safe place to have her baby, whose father died. I wanted to know more about her but We learn more about her history in Volume II. The second half of volume I explores the backstory of Sister Peace, the Solistine nun who abides in the castle. I Loved loved this story! In volume II, hammerings visit the castle for a favor - we learn the backstories of Jain, Ms. Cully, Dave , and the doctor. The book is so funny, wholesome, entertaining. The attention to detail in the art helped me slow down in reading this. Five stars for a fun graphic novel! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
