I've always been a sucker for a good survival story, and this one delivers.
Jess Cooper is a teenager recovering from a serious car accident that left her with limited mobility in one leg. She comes to stay with her off-the-grid father, and without giving away any spoilers, is left to face the wilderness on her own.
The story is told in an interleaved collection of "before" (primarily flashbacks of events that led her into this predicament) and "after" chapters. Half-way through the book, the tone changes, with before and after melding together into one. This was well-done and very engaging. Overall, I grew to really care for Jess and root for her and her dog to make it.

I really liked this book, but there is one huge spoiler that I wish I had known before picking it up, which might have made me more hesitant:
The dog dies.
First book to make me cry in a long time. Although I wish I could have prepared myself, this book was basically written for me. I loved it.

When they say its the "Hatchet" meets "The Revenant" they mean it. If you want a great survival story that you can get through quickly this is it.
Amazing amazing amazing. I want to scream from the rooftops and recommend this book to everyone I know! I devoured it in 3 hours and it left me wanting more, but not in a bad way!

Good
A really engaging read, would love to see it made into a movie. But killing the dog seemed stupid and pointless and kinda ruined the end for me.
