DID NOT FINISH: 30%

Lost interest, a few too many threads moving at once, and the princess wasn’t well characterized. Interesting world but I wasn’t gripped.

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book, because i thoroughly enjoyed it. also, i spent the entire second half of the book thinking that Yassen was the prophet; my jaw literally dropped when it was revealed it was Samson at the end!! I felt like such a buffoon for falling for such an obvious red herring!!

The romance at the end felt a little forced to me, but I enjoyed their dynamic all the same.

i loved the emotions and struggles described that Yassen went through as a mixed person; it was very relatable, and very well written!

the way the magic was described was incredible! so lush and descriptive. Very excited to start the sequel!!

The pace of the book was okay, not confident the world building was clear enough
