This story was pretty good! It felt slow in the beginning but it picked up in the middle! I can see the author's heart in the story, but it was sort of a boring story. I liked how the artist was addressing serious real world issues like the destruction of coral reefs because of humans and the weight of grief over a parent's death being a struggle for the left behind child. The coral reef issue was prominent, but the grief theme could have had a stronger arc. I wanted way more from this story, is what it comes down to. The art is beautiful, as usual. I wish I could mix and blend colors like she does!!
Overall, I recommend because of the art and simple story for young readers.

This was a very sweet read. I really enjoyed the emphasize on making a difference on the community level and loved the art.
I think the story could've been drawn out quite a bit, though. This would've helped with the pacing of some of the transitions and I would've loved to see a bit more of this world.
I also found the fact that Lana kept an aquicorn in a jar a bit concerning - this may encourage children to interact with wild animals in ways that may inadvertently harm themself or the animal. Alternatively, it would've been nice to see her at least consult a wildlife expert on how to properly care for it.
Overall, I still really enjoyed the story and am interested in other works by this author.

Minor: Death of parent
This one was more graphic based than written story, but that was fine because of course I still love the art style and the story was heartwarming with so many positive messages. I really enjoyed the fantastical concepts of the Aquicorns and their home. Someone said, and I'm paraphrasing, that O'Neill creates worlds you will want to live in and that's so true!
