As always, really cute art, and a good message, but I find it a little hard to keep track of times and locations with the lack of explanatory text.
4.5/5
Such pretty art! The color schemes were so pleasing, and the style in general was so pretty and clean! I also liked the story and the message about helping the environment! The end/back even provided resources for helping the coral reefs!

When Lana & her father return to the small seaside village, they carry more than just the weight of their luggage. These are the waters her mother was lost to.
Repairs & healing both physical & emotional are underway as Lana helps her Aunt Mae clean up after a devastating storm. Caring for a tiny aquicorn, repeated warnings echo from the reef as the environment is exploited. Can this little village change its ways or even have a big enough impact in a global issue?
I’ll be withholding a rating based on a deeply personal grief journey of my own, which this book inadvertently takes aim at in multiple aspects.
Alongside stunning illustrations, as one would expect from O’Neill, there’s a strong environmental message, teaching a healthy respect for ocean conservation. The story also deals with themes of loss & the complicated feelings grief brings. Like other books by O’Neill, there is also a strong representation of LGBTQ+.
