slow-paced
The slow burn was nice. Aurora was a really fun protagonist.
I felt as though it took forever to end. I wanted more about her mom and less about Kaden. In fact, I started to feel bad for Kaden by the end, which was against the premise of the story.

3.5 rounded down… this book was way too long. Had it ended 300 pages ago, it probably would’ve been 5 stars because I had fun! The slow burn was good! I love Amos and Aurora’s relationship! It was fun to read about someone connecting with their hometown! Rhodes is great! But the drama with the ex was A Lot™️, and there was far too much emotional “telling” instead of “showing” from Aurora (or “Ora”.) Speaking of, I took an entire star point off because I thought it was so bizarre that Rhodes called her BUDDY BECAUSE SHE REMINDED HIM OF BUDDY THE ELF… all of the nicknames in the book were kind of bad but that is truly deranged. Buddy the Elf??? And she thought it was sweet when he told her??? Immediately no.
I ate this up. This slow burn burned all longggg time but I loved it!

I was a little disappointed with the convoluted plot of this book I was excited to read a book with a slightly older protagonist who experienced divorce, heartbreak and learned to live her life again, that did happen in the book but I wish her previous relationship would of been idk normal? The superstar plot just seemed like a bit much and made it hard to relate to what she was experiencing and coupled with the the my mom went missing hiking portion of the plot her life seemed a little too dramatic, I think this book would of been better had she went through a normal divorce and had there been more exposition about her growing apart from that relationship instead this dramatic life of the rich and famous plot line
What did like was the pacing, the development of Rhodes and Oras relationship felt slow and natural for most of the book, I mean I think her getting lost hiking twice and him coming to get her was a little much once would of been enough, but most of their interactions or what we could call event moments felt realistic and natural and I liked his character and demeanor he really was like the perfect grumpy man
