No, no, no, this story is as creepy as you get. Go read The Graveyard Book, not this one.
The film is far superior in my opinion but this is still a good read!
I’ve seen the movie 9 million times because k love it and I have to say it’s a pretty faithful adaptation. This book is delightfully weird and if I had a kid I’d totally traumatize them with this book and the movie. I’m shocked it took me this long to sit down and read it. It reads like a folk tale or a scary story you two around a campfire. It’s great.

So I loved the Coraline film since a very young girl and I've finally managed to get around to reading the actual book!
It's definitely very different yet very similar, I loved the book the same as I love the film. It's such a creative story in so many different ways.
Definitely a 5 star read for me

Coraline brings readers into a world where bravery isn't about the absence of fear but the strength to confront it head-on. This enchanting novela weaves together whimsical settings and characters with spine-tingling suspense, offering a timeless tale that resonates with audiences of all ages (myself being 28years). At its heart, Coraline is a story of resilience and self-discovery, following the journey of Coraline as she navigates the treacherous world of the Other Mother. Coraline's courage in the face of danger and dread are powerful reminder that bravery is not defined by being fearless but by the willingness to act even when you are scared.
Gaiman does a wonderful job at bringing Coraline's world to life, from the heroine herself to the creepy and uncanny valley Other Mother. Each character adds depth and complexity to this work.
While Coraline may diverge from its cinematic counterpart in certain aspects, such as the absence of the character Wybie (RIP to our favorite want to be bestie), it is engaging all on its own. The seamless integration of fairy tale motifs, from enchanted mirrors to magical keys, adds an extra layer of enchantment, drawing readers deeper into Coraline's hauntingly beautiful world.
TLDR: Read it, you won't be disappointed.

Starts slow, becomes interesting; but 10yo nearly switched books when he couldn't believe protagonist's blasé and credulous response to increasingly magical occurrences as "bad writing". Becomes mysterious, then scary, then kind of sad. Lacking soul, ironically, as a plot point is finding them. Nods to Alice in Wonderland (cat), Magicians Nephew, (joined houses, world between worlds). 10yo remarked "quite a good story, really" when over.

Bah c'était bien Le film est fidèle au livre je l'ai lu car des personnes sur internet disaient que c'était plus terrifiant que le film mais hormis des détails et des scènes qui ne se passent pas pareil c'est très similaire !
