I’d like to preface this by saying fuck Neil Gaiman, all my homies hate Neil Gaiman, but I received a copy of Coraline for free and wanted to finally give it a read. If you’re reading this and don’t know what he did, he has disturbing sexual misconduct/assault allegations against him, & I fully stand in support of the women who spoke out against him.

I’ve been a fan of the movie for years, so I was surprised by some of the differences from the book. It has slightly more eerie/weird vibes compared to the movie, which was fun to see. I also liked learning a bit more about the world of Coraline compared to what we got to see in the movie. However, I do think I like the movie better in some ways. The movie has better pacing, and I like that the plot is more action-packed. I also liked that the movie made the Other World seem more magical.

I think the book has some good messages for kids, which I think is one of the book’s strong points: Doing something while you’re afraid is true bravery and learn to love & appreciate life even if it isn’t exactly how you want it. But it’s still fuck Neil Gaiman!

this movie is so top tier how could I not read the book?

narration was 👌 and there was a few weird little songs throughout that just really enhanced the spooky vibes 👻 as I make my way through some fall reads

I missed my boy Wybie but it was an excellent audiobook and has me so excited to rewatch the movie again sometime soon 🍂

of course the creepy sex pest is annoyingly good at writing

I think I liked this more than the movie because I wouldn’t have to deal with eerie music, also, strangely there was no Wyborn
