So, this book wasn't bad I just found myself struggling to get through it. Nothing big really started happening until about 70% into the book which made it feel very dragged out. Didn't really care for the "love triangle" either as it kind of made no sense? I feel like the characters could have been developed more throughout the book and since the book was definitely left open for a sequel, not a lot was concluded at the end of this.

Started out promising with queer representation. Unfortunately the worldbuilding fell flat for me and I found myself severely bored.

“we got joscelin at home” and it’s gabe smh. that glaringly obvious comparison aside, right off the bat lore is too much of a chosen one, i find it difficult to believe she was capable of magic after suppressing it for 13 years (bit on the nose for a bad luck number no?) and i checked out the minute she was described as essentially too hot to hide her body. a shame since i was recommended this book for the similar vibes of the shepherd king duology and this falls FLAT. my search continues
