I’m DNFing this very basic book but I want to get credit for getting through 45% of it. It’s a great set up—girl ends up sheltering in a cemetery in late 19th century Boston who can communicate with the dead. The writer seems to think it’s okay then to right a pretty simplistic romance story with tinges of a murder mystery without digging into history, culture, anything. This story has very little meat and the heroine might as well have been wandering around modern-day Boston pining for a jerk of a dude. Ugh.

It took me about 50% of this book to really get into it, but glad I stuck with it. The first half had a lot of world building and character creation (most of which had great value). Besides the slow start, the only other grievance I had was with the main male character. I found his traits to be anything less than admirable and found myself disappointed in the relationship development between Tabby and him. I am not sure if that was the intention or not. I had much more of an emotional connection to Alice and Eli. I loved the small references to future events.
