The characters are really annoying and unlikeable. They act like kids, they bicker, they are constantly mad about nothing, making assumptions, or jumping to conclusions.
I tried to keep reading because I was somewhat interested in the plot, but I can’t get past the annoying main characters.
Also, the description of the book sells it as alike to Dune and Pride and Prejudice, and so far it’s really, really not. Not in the characters, setting, conflict, or writing style.
Maybe it gets better as you go, but I won’t be able to get that far. Not for me.

3.5/5
I genuinely enjoyed reading this book. It has a great concept and good world building as well. It was definetly interesting to read the inner struggle of male lead character with his temper, personally I relate to that being a short tempered person myself. I liked it when Hallie openly speaks out that she is rolling her eyes instead of actually doing it. It was a nice touch.
The writing style is also profound, in the books I have read, sometimes the literary devices are just so subtle that I wouldn't be able to point it out, but in this it's in your face which makes the writing more beautiful.
I liked the variation in friendship dynamics across the characters and I liked the focus on certain themes. It is super adventurous.
I liked that the male lead character is not just broody or angry with a sickening past, his humour is peculiar. Basically the character is not as boring as most of the characters portrayed in other fantasies, instantly making the chemistry much more interesting.
There are cons just like every other book.
The book has a weird pacing, sometimes it's fast and sometimes it's quite dragging. Especially the action scenes go really fast but the inner monologues are stretched out too much to the point that I had to skip few lines just to read the next segment.
Going into the book I expected romance with Sci fi as a subplot but I got the exact opposite. Even though it's not directly mentioned, the description of the book did give the idea tht it was a romance novel, instead I got an extremely slow slowburn . They don't even kiss in the first book.
However, halfway through I understood that the focus is not only on romance and with that perspective I was able to vibe with the intense and slow chemistry between the characters.
What I'd suggest is to go into the book with the mindset that the book is quite adventurous, action packed, family drama, bonding dynamics, low politics and definetly trajedy too..
Romance is just a minor sublot in this book. But I have a feeling that it would be more intense in the next book which I will be reading.
All in all, I liked the book for its perfections as well as imperfections.
