not bad not bad indeed i didn’t really know what was happening a lot of the time but like it was cool
3.9/5

A great steampunk, sci-fi, fantasy, character driven adventure! I really enjoyed Cities of Smoke and Starlight. I really loved the world building. It was fun, imaginative, and full of adventure.

All of the characters were so well developed and I enjoyed discovering who each of them were. I loved the dual POV and both the FMC and MMC. It was so fun to watch them banter and for us to have the insights into their thoughts and how alike they were even though on the surface they seem like opposites.

This book has an enemies to lovers slow burn subplot which was fun but let's be clear it is a super SLOW BURN which was fun and infuriating to watch.

looking forward to seeing what happens next in book 2!

Oof, this was not for me. The synopsis made some surprisingly big claims, like this was similar to Dune (it’s not). The only way it’s similar to Rogue One is pretty much everybody dies.

I couldn’t get into the story at all because the characters were so unlikeable. There is constant bickering and arguing, and everyone acts like they’re 12. the tragic backstories felt very out of place so when we’re supposed to feel sad, it’s more of a meh.

The plot is very convoluted and took way too long to explain. There was no fun element, and the action was very repetitive: fly, fight, crash, fight some more. The book itself was way too long and an ending that felt very unsatisfying. And contrary to the book’s own claims, there is no romantic subplot. Everyone is a jerk to each other. Oof.

This book has an overall interesting plot and world, but it was boring. The female lead--Hallie--was kind of annoying in a lot of parts and the male lead--Kase--was solid but your average male character. I was bored a lot of the time and I didn't feel connected to many of the characters.

DID NOT FINISH: 19%

Maybe I didn’t give it enough time to understand the world, but the main characters were annoying and immature, and I couldn’t stand the euphemistic cursing. Ah well, first DNF of 2024 had to happen at some point.
