I had a bit of a love/Hate relationship with this book at first. And then I gave way to the journey and the story. This is at its base the journey of one boy from childhood to manhood.
I liked the world as it was painted in this story and the monsters, human and not. My soft heart hated some of the worst things that played out, but still found hope for Mark's future. I could have kept reading if the pages wouldn't have ended.

I finished Day Boy a few days ago and still wrapping my head around it. This is a dystopian YA horror, and I hated the main character Mark. He’s annoying, whiny, and a child. Almost the point of the book right?
Dain is Mark’s Master. Here we are in post-apocalyptic Australia where the vampires rule and they have their servant Day Boys. Mark lives to do whatever Dain needs during the day, cleaning, errands, etc.
This book really starts out slow, reaches a crescendo, then everything comes crashing down hard. If you like horror and dystopian societies check this out!

I didn't know I needed a vampire dad story in my life but here we are. Honestly loved this book. It was dark, tragic, and the writing style was poetic without being too pretentious. Dain has my heart.

A Highly original, elegantly and eloquently written piece of Australian horror. Jamieson's fascinating take on the vampire mythos is also a compelling insight into performative masculinity and the roll of violence in masculine hierarchies.
