Way too slow for my taste. Too much time spent on describing what each person gave the next one for Christmas and too much chit chat. Also, the whole idea with that cat having anything to do with solving the crime is more far fetched than I expected - even though I didn't exactly think a cat would solve a crime. The whole idea is nice and I really like the main character but I just need a bit more action.

Enjoyable, though I found it quite sad who got killed. Murderer was predictable but for a cozy mystery, that is alright.

As all in this series, cute, light, easy read with a bit of a mystery.

3.5 stars. A classic Cat Who- love this series.

George Guidall was a wonderful narrator.

The worst book by far in this series. The mystery was no mystery, far too obvious from early on. Polly is more boring than ever and Quill is like some character from the days when women were subservient to men, deferring to their 'superior' intellect. It's such a shame that his attitude to women isn't made into a fun aspect of the plots in this series, there's certainly enough material. The murdered were interesting characters and it's a shame how disposable people are to enable the world of Pickaxe to continue. If the next book is as poor a read, I will ditch the series.

I remember reading one of these "cat who" books a long time ago. But in my memory, the book included at least some amount of story that was actually told from the cat's perspective. And it was set in a big city (Chicago?). So maybe it wasn't even one of these books but some other cat-mystery-solving book. Maybe it was even a parody of these books. In any event, I was expecting something totally different from this book. This book is mostly a small town story - gossip about the local folks as they get together for bridge or coffee or lunch; descriptions of the Christmas presents they are exchanging. In the background, there's also a moderately interesting mystery that the cat seems to have an uncanny interest in. I liked the book fine, but can't imagine wanting to read enough about these characters to read the whole series. Maybe if I'd started at the beginning and grown with these characters as they developed, I'd be more invested in them. The narrator did a fine job; I always enjoy Guidall's narration.
