It was pretty good. The first book felt like a set up for the rest of the story, and honestly this book felt like a set up too. Very little actually happens, just like in the first book. But I kinda like how slow it feels. Imo no chemistry between any of the characters though, so their confessions of love seem very out of place to me.

Amazing. I think genuinely I will judge any YA fantasy books I read next much harder for having read this one. It's written like a myth or a long lost tale. The main character, Lia, can do literally anything, but her competence never feels contrived or flat as I kind of expect from the fantasy YA genre — her genuine resilience, strength and adaptability is what keeps me rooting for her and rooted in this series. World-building, though simple, is extremely well done. The plot twists, dark story turns, and character progression feel natural and well-seeded - everytime something happens, you think, but of course. All this and a 10/10 ending that I'm really interested in seeing the ramifications of.

-1 star for love interests the book could literally have done without. I'm a bigger fan of Kaden than Rafe, story-wise, but both of them are ultimately uninteresting.

SO GOOD

I only wish I had read this as soon as I finished the first book
