Prokletí druhých dílů se bohužel potvrdilo. Budiž autorce odpuštěno, protože jako jedna z mála umí i tak upoutat a oslovit čtenáře.

*continues to wait patiently for things to actually happen in this series*

Lia is my girl and and she's still the star of this series. She's still fierce and strong-willed and intelligent, which I loveeee, although she does turn a little cruel in this book
Spoilerparticularly to Kaden
, which I didn't love. And we're introduced to some brilliant new characters in this book too. I loveddd the Komizar. He was so deliciously cruel and power hungry. He suffered a little from the classic evil-for-the-sake-of-it villain trope, but I did appreciate the little parts of his backstory that we got to glimpse. And don't get me started on Aster. She's so sweet and clever and brave. 10/10 Rue from The Hunger Games vibes.

I was excited going into the new setting in this book. I really enjoyed the setting in Venda and being able to see that Kingdom and its people and how it's run. We didn't get a very deep look into the politics or the wider life of the Kingdom, but Lia was a prisoner, so I think that's probably fair. I really loved seeing the clans and their reaction to Lia and how the Komizar tried to manipulate that.

I'm sorry but these books are SLOW. I had this exact problem with the first book in the series. You're waiting for so long for things to actually happen because the plot crawls along at a snail's pace. There's lots of thinking about talking about doing stuff. The characters share their thoughts with the reader A LOT (genuinely some chapters were solely what the character was thinking).

I also had some problems with the shifting POVs in this book. Some of the chapters felt like they had been put in because we hadn't seem a POV from that character for ages (aka Kaden's chapters) and were quite boring. I loved Pauline in the first book, but her chapters were so pointless in this book - nothing actually happened. The only purpose her chapters seemed to provide was to inform the reader of what was happening back in Lia's home in Morrighan, which could have been achieved in more effective ways to be honest.

And finallyyyy let's talk about the love triangle. So the love triangle was the main (and quite frankly, sole) focus of the first book and it takes a front seat in this book too. There's lots of jealousy and playing games and the boys bickering with each other, which I'm not a fan of. BUT it's the only love triangle I've ever read where it's not clear who the MC will end up with. I still can't call it after reading this book and I really like that. Honestly, I usually hate love triangles, but I must admit I am a little hooked by this one. (Psst my favourite is Kaden, obviously. Rafe is a dumb meathead).

Overall, I'm enjoying this series. I seriously wish the books were shorter with a more condensed plot and I am starting to tire of the love triangle, even though I really do want to find out who Lia ends up with. I enjoyed the setting of Venda in this book and the secrets that were revealed, and I'm looking forward to reading the final book of the series and seeing how it all ends.

Ok WOW. I loved this book in the series. There’s a lot going on that is building up the story even more. I can’t wait to read the next book now!

Rating: 4.5 stars

I read [b:The Kiss of Deception|16429619|The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1)|Mary E. Pearson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1389804901l/16429619._SX50_.jpg|22617247] a good 2-3 years ago and it was a solid 4 star read at the time, despite the love triangle. I picked this up, not expecting a lot especially since I didn't remember a whole lot. Straight away, I had been proven wrong.

It was so easy to fall back into this world, back in love with the characters. Lia has grown so much as a character and I was so happy with her in this book. She's faced with so many difficult decisions and she truly does the best she can. I loved Rafe and Kaden, and the Komizar. All of the new characters!

The romance was really well-written. It didn't overwhelm the story but was there enough to keep you hooked.

I am so excited to see where this series goes! Definitely enjoyed this one more than the first.

I’ve been trying to read this for so long, it’s time to move on
