KU. A sweet and sad read. I enjoyed reading it, but wasn’t pulled in like I normally am.

Note: Grab the chocolate and tissue if you, like me, decided to read this while having PMS!
It was time for me to take a break from psychological thrillers and enjoy a nice heart filled story. This book absolutely made my heart filled.
Main character Aly is living what she thinks is her best life in New York until an unfortunate incident/encounter occurs. One she cannot recall but has been made public on social media. As a result, Aly is asked to take a leave from her high end job. Not having a lot of money in savings, she breaks up with her boyfriend and heads to Michigan where her brother has left her his home.
Aly is not particularly looking forward to going to her brothers (now her) home. She was very close to her brother Luke before his passing and misses him very much.
Upon arrival, she is surprised to see her brother's best friend Wyatt in the home. She is shocked to learn the house he left to both her and Wyatt. They are forced to be "roommates" while Aly is visiting and the story takes off full on from here.
The writing really let me get to know the characters. I could feel the emotion each one had. I loved the fact I got to know Luke even though he was no longer with them. I loved the banter, the connection and the raw emotion Aly and Wyatt had. (and I am so glad Wyatt really wasn't such a messy slob, talk about a first impression to make someone with OCD cringe! lol)
The end had me in tears. Such a good book. It's a nice quick easy happy, yet sad, read. Would have loved to see an epilogue though.
Highly recommend!
TW: Book touches on child abuse and PTSD.

I think that the storyline and the messages and themes touched on in this book are important and are handled beautifully, like grief, abuse, and mental health. The love story throughout also felt genuine and touching. However, characterization for the main character Aly was not all the way developed and it seemed her intentions changed without much cause toward the end of the book.
This was not really my thing (more like 2.5 stars really), but I enjoyed it enough to finish it while traveling. I am now realizing this is almost the same as I how I felt about [b:I'm Fine and Neither Are You|41484600|I'm Fine and Neither Are You|Camille Pagán|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551111905l/41484600._SY75_.jpg|64706460] by the same author, so I just need to remember this in the future.
I didn’t feel the connection between the characters and didn’t really care about following their stories. It was repetitive and the romance seemed to come out of nowhere. I like a slow burn, which I think this was supposed to be but it wasn’t a slow build. Just zero to sex.
[3.5 stars] quick read that tackles heavy topics including child abuse, grief, loss of a loved one, and suicide. Even with the heavy premise there’s still a romance tied in. I appreciated that the book was well written. The main character gets in her own way a lot which made me frustrated for her! But grief and life are messy and we see that struggle and how it can impact relationships.
