boy was this a thick one but the climax was as gripping as ever. it definitely felt darker in tone compared to goblet of fire, and the contrast is glaringly obvious when you compare it to the books that came even before.
some might think reading about wizard combat and other similar action sequences isn't as gripping as watching it play out on a screen, but it is! oh it so is! i was on the edge of my seat and constantly gaping at the invisible camera watching me in my room.
the pacing was a little interesting in order of the phoenix. we spent a lot of time with the characters in the first half of their fifth year, from harry's hearing in august all the way to christmas at st mungo's, and then we kind of sped up all of the sudden from january to june. i didn't mind the slower pacing that guided us through the first half, but i think i would've overall liked a more consistent pace of events throughout the months. whether this means the book would've been longer or shorter hardly would've mattered to me as long as i had that comfortable pace.
i still think goblet of fire was one of the most engaging books in the series - the unravelling of the school year through the triwizard tournament was super exciting to read about. order of the phoenix felt a lot more harrowing the entire time. harry was really going THROUGH it his OWLS year. i'm so glad i can relate to and connect with these characters through my own secondary school education. onto NEWTS and sixth year! aka a levels and year 12! see what i did there?! i connected. so fun.
i really appreciate the variety we're given with all the books. it makes the journey that is completing this series a very engrossing one, and the way the story's going with harry's prophecy just having been revealed, it's going to get even more intense... i am ready for year 12. they're getting older but they're still so young i just shed a tear.

The most Shakespearean in the level of utter miscommunication that I always find it the most difficult of the HP books to read
Loving rereading these books. This was my least favorite book the first time I read it and my opinion of it has definitely improved. I forgot how heart-wrenching the last two chapters are, but certainly enjoyed it! 2 more to go!
One whole star off in dedication to you know what at the end. Not to mention that retched woman....
The slog of the series but needed to push through. Two day read is crazy!!
Not sure how I managed to avoid spoilers for 15 years, but after my first read I was devastated!
