I think this has been my favorite in the series so far.

This really highlighted some of the struggles and dilemmas that people face in wars and our fragility when we have to make difficult decisions in relation to family members.  This was a great instalment!

The Solace: As always, this was a fast-paced, action-packed, character-development read. The moral turmoil our Animorphs go through really makes me think about how I would handle some of these situations. Our group dynamics are shifting, and tensions are building, especially as the Yeerk war rages on and emotionally impacts our characters in different ways.

The Dread: My biggest issue with this series is the pacing. There is significant character development with Marco and Jake, and between this book and the previous one (The Reunion), they have flipped their leading traits/flaws. It makes sense for this to happen, especially given the events. I don't love the speed at which it happened and how the narrator states that this 'has been a thing' - rather than letting the audience experience it more.

Overall, I'm still heavily invested and constantly asking myself, what would I do? Would I save the ones I love or make the sacrifice for the greater good?

This one. Oof. I think it's one of the best of the "middle era" of books. So many feelings and so much depth. Once again, I find myself shocked that I was reading this series at ages 10-13. It's so much more nuanced than even some adult books I read now!
(The plot, you know, it's the plot. Let's not think about it too much, shall we? Just like Star Trek.)
