Doesn’t add much to the story. I would have been more interested in Ian and Jamie’s time fighting in the war, and what led to Ian’s amputation. But it does do a good job of illustrating Jamie’s character before he became a fugitive.

This prequel is a little gem!
It's short enough to be read in one sitting and yet it has all the elements of Diana Gabaldon's lengthier masterpieces: mystery, adventure, breathtaking action scenes, witty banter, a fair bit of character development...
Kudos to the narrator of the audiobook who did such a good job of giving everyone their own distinct voice.
I can't wait to put my hands on the next book in the series!
