Own TBR.
This is a prequel to the Outlander series, following the story of young teenage Jamie and Ian. Although it was entertaining and I flew through it was because it is so short. I didn't like it much. The writing style didn't have Gabaldon's usual flair or wit.

Love reading some more back story.
Follow Jamie and Ian on adventures. Jamie is just coming back from losing his father and getting flogged. Jamie and Ian are running with a band of mercenaries in the France. Take a job to transport an old Torah and a Jewish gentleman's daughter.

Spoiler
She tricks them by drugging Jamie and seducing Ian; and escapes to marry her true love.
4.5 stars. As always, I loved Diana Gabaldon's writing and I loved meeting a much younger, naive, & pigheaded Jamie Fraser and Ian Murray. My only complaint was that I felt as if I was thrown into the story instead of led into it. Nonetheless, I love love love Diana and I love love love love Jamie and I will continue to read her works as long as I have breath in my body.
(This book also got me thinking--why isn't there an Outlander prequel? I would love to read about Claire and Frank's relationship before the stones, her time as an army nurse, etc. This needs to be a thing!)

So good. I read it after watching the show and starting the first novel, so I was acquainted with the characters. I loved this deeper look into Jamie and Ian’s relationship and seeing them without Claire or Jenny around. The young bachelors certainly had a way of getting into and out of trouble.
A short story and fast read. Just a little story with Ian and Jaime; nothing too big to add to the Outlander series. As someone else says, "Without prior book/character experience, I don't think it would hold much interest for newbies."
It was nice to be back in the world of Jaime and to see Ian and Jaime's friendship. They are very supportive of each other.
Good but not my favorite read. 3 stars.
