So it pulls the first two books together finally. I liked it (even though it's a young adult series). I would read more by this author and wished the series went on....Characters were well thought out, plot wasn't too deep. Easy reading.

Good 3rd book in the series but the least important in the set.

I need to re-read this whole series as I finished it in 2018, and am writing this in 2025, but all I can remember was feeling reborn and renewed. This book healed something in me.

Argh, I hate it when I read books out of order. This book was interesting, but I did not read book 2, so I feel like a few details have escaped me. I am satisfied with the ending, but alot of the details reminded me that this is not really a feel-good sort of children's book.

This book ties The Giver and Gathering Blue together by centering around Mattie (a character of Gathering Blue) Although I didn't love it as much as the first two books it made a good conclusion to the semi-series.

I liked seeing how the first two books came together in this one. It did seem to just brush off a lot of what could have really been explored. I get that it's for middle grade readers, but I think they could handle it. Certainly food for thought for the kids that read these.

I love this series so much! There is so much to think about. I've been reading these with my son.

This is my favorite book in The Giver Quartet (so far)!!! Gathering Blue had left me not wanting to read this book right now, but I'm glad I decided to read it anyway! Messenger ties the characters of The Giver and Gathering Blue together and explains some missing details of these characters as well. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!!

Wow it's been a while since I read this... I remember this as a kinda nice story but it just really wasn't for me I guess. Out of all the books this was probably third place for me because I did like it more than gathering blue.

Matty has grown up now and he knows Forest like the back of his hand. It is his job in Village to deliver all the messages to other communities. At least it was that way until dark forces start to poison village, and Forest starts to darken and thicken. Matty realises that this is his last chance to find Kira and bring her to Village to get reunited with her father.

I feel like that all I should say really but it does involve more of the strange gifts and slightly mystical powers acting on this futuristic world.

***** SPOILERS *****

The end just wasn't that great for me... I mean I didn't cry or anything when he died to save Forest and like the village and people but it was sad... I liked how Jonas and Kira seem to be hinting at falling love, that seems like it would be really sweet.

Ok now about the Trademaster... What even is that? I always thought of this books as futuristic but so far everything seemed very real... But here we really go into the supernatural... I hope that gets explained better in the next one.

I really don't know what else to say on this book really... So... End of rant.

A satisfying continuation of both The Giver and Gathering Blue, and yet, it takes away a bit of the mystery of those books that captured my imagination so many years after I first read these stories. I've re-read those two so many times, and will continue to do so. Messenger will probably be re-read less.
