Highly Recommend! When I first started this book I wasn't sure it was for me but the longer I read the more I connected with content. Very helpful and emotional

Good information and interesting, but wasn't doing it for me. It didn't keep my attention how I was wanting with this book. It was kind of like reading an article and listing things at times.

It took me far too long to recognize the emotional manipulation and humiliation I grew up with. Once I did, a friend of mine recommended this book to me and I read it 2 years ago. I liked it a lot and it's helped me gain the courage to expect respect from my family. Just spent 10 days with them and I actually had the courage to speak up against the sexist, racist, and otherwise offensive comments and degradation. Unfortunately, I don't think I can do that for long. I need to re-read this and re-think that relationship in general.

My goal as a parent: for my children to not end up needing counseling because of me.

I agreed with the first 70% of the book, but the remainder was definitely a product of the time it was written in. To say that a person can only overcome the effects of their toxic parents through confronting them is very singleminded and can and likely has put many people in dangerous situations as a result.

Very helpful indeed. Lots of confirmation. And I'm not caring if others think I'm being ridicules or making it out to be something it is not. It is exactly what you think it's not.

I really look forward to reading her other books.

I am not alone

over the years, I struggled with my relationship with my parents. I always thought they did the best for me and i was just a bad daughter who was constantly ruining their life. Well, this book opened my eyes. Don't think it's one of those "everything bad in your life is your parents' fault" mumbo-jumbo. The author specifically warns against that. You have to take responsibility for your own life. But if yoy were raised by people incapable of providing you with love and support you needed as a child, it's time to grow up and redefine your relationship. Frequently you will not be able to change your parents, but you can change yourself, your perception and your relationship with them using the techniques in this book.

Ogólnie książka dosyć pocieszająca, że czasami za nasze spierdolenie odpowiada coś więcej niż my sami, ale według mnie momentami trochę zbyt mocno liże po tyłku

Some useful reading here.
As an adult child of a toxic-mother and passive enabling father, some of the scenarios here rang true with me.

I don't think the book itself is a one-stop shop to reclaiming your life, but I think it would be very helpful in tandem with counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.

There are handy insights and a couple of exercises that are quite cathartic. - I enjoyed writing the "Fairytale" so much that I'm turning this into fully fledged tale about the recovery from a torrid childhood

Again - it won't give you all the answers in order to move on, but it will perhaps help you break the cycle.
