The Alex Cross/John Sampson Duo is the best of James Patterson. I couldn’t put this book down because the plot is just a little too close to some of the stuff we’ve seen on the news, albeit exaggerated. But Alex is out of commission, so John is the focal point. And of course, Nana Mama is still around!

Hooray! John Sampson gets a starring role in this one!
Typical, but quick, bloody read lol

I read some reviews of this book in which people say it wasn't a "real" Alex Cross story. Well, if they read the blurb they would have learned that it wasn't meant to be an Alex Cross story. It was John Sampson's story with the characters we've come to know and love in the Alex Cross series.

And I love John Sampson. He is as much a part of the Alex Cross saga as Alex himself and I love that he has a story of his own now, and I hope there are more.

I thought I figured out who the "bad guys" were a couple of times and it turns out I was partially right, but for a different reason than I thought. I like a story that keeps me guessing, and this had me guessing a lot.

The story centers around myriad small-to-medium-sized attacks in the US at schools, shopping centers, etc. The president puts together a task force to find out what's going on and why. On their way to a meeting of the task force Alex and John are attacked, and Alex is seriously injured. Now, not only does John want to discover who is behind the attacks, he wants revenge on those people for injuring his best friend. From there, it is a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns.

Alex's wife Bree Stone, his grandmother Nana Mama, and children Damon, Jannie and Ali, along with John's daughter Willow, all make appearances with Bree's quite significant. FBI Special Agent Ned Mahoney also plays a big role, as does a new character, Elizabeth Deacon.

This was a good book to give me my Alex Cross/John Sampson fix before the next Cross book comes out in the fall (I assume.)

Truly enjoyed reading this book. Makes me want to read more from James Patterson. Even though Alex Cross was incapacitated for most of the book, it was still his brain that figured out the clues. Quite an interesting mystery too. Love the short chapters. Very fast paced. Oh, and I love Nana Mama and his wife Bree and the little girl too - very smart!
