I enjoy the Alex Cross books and I really enjoyed reading this one as story is told from John Sampson's view instead of Alex Cross
medium-paced
This series just needs to end. It's getting a little outrageous at this point. How many times can Cross have a NDE, take a step back from the job so he can survive and live out his life with his family; only to have him get 'bored' within a day and be back at it? There's only one left in this series (as of now) but I think it's time to hang it up. Unless he's going to take it in the direction of focusing on Sampson instead? But him and Alex are the same age, so it's not like the Harry Bosch series where Connelly started to shift the focus to Ballard and Bosch ends up being more of a side character.
I get it, you've written 20 books and fans get invested in characters, but you also have to know when to hang it up and when to end the series.

5 Stars. For a long time I’ve been waiting for a Sampson book. It took a long time but it was well worth the wait. Hopefully, there are more to come.
I’ve been reading the Cross books since the beginning. It’s hard to believe that Patterson could ever even dream up this story back then. Serial Killers, Murderers and Psychopaths sure, but a Coup led by The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? The truly sad part is it was probably more believable than many of the stories he’s written before. It was disturbing on far too many levels. Please James, go back the Serial Killers.

Another incredible book from the Alex cross series with his best friend narrated for the 1st time in 31 books. I really like the change in narrators I thought it was a good story and it had some great fight scenes with lots of suspense.
