Very scary and not impossible story.

Interesting twist being written from Sampson’s point of view. Slightly different rhythm than a “regular” Alex Cross novel, but fun, quick read. They need to do this more often to freshen up the series. A Bree Aston version should be next.

This book has been in my Amazon Wishlist for several months, and on the day it got officially released, I was all over it! It only took me two days to finish it.

Yes, I have read all the other books in the Alex Cross series, and really enjoyed all of them.

Despite the title, it was more a book about his partner, James Sampson, as Alex Cross spends most of the book recuperating from some injuries. I don’t want to spoil it. But I will say, it was full of action and lots of twists and turns. Just like, all the other Alex Cross books.

I liked the fact that it was told from James Sampson’s point of view, rather Alex Cross. I can easily see more books about him.

I enjoyed this thriller staring John Sampson! Alex Cross was benched early in the game and wasn’t really able to help solve this one, but John put on his cape and saved the day.

I don’t know if I’d be into a series all about John because I’m not sure how that would work out. We’d need an entirely new cast of characters. But if Patterson decides to give it a chance, I’d check it out!

Solid 4 stars, but this will be a weird review. I LOVE the “Alex Cross” series, primarily because I find our main protagonist enthralling and fascinating. However, he was relegated to a minor character in this novel. I like John Sampson, but this novel read as a fairly generic thriller. It was also clear how much Patterson wrote (since he co-wrote this novel). Having said all of that, it was a very entertaining and a wild ride.

While this was a page turner I couldn’t put down, and while I enjoyed the new perspective of a story from Samson’s POV, I would not have called this an Alex Cross book.

The subject matter is horrifying and I truly hope a lot of poetic license was put into play and that these events couldn’t actually come to fruition in real life. An omen to be certain that I hope is taken heed in today’s fraught political and media “at all costs no matter the truth” driven climate.

I hope we see more stories from Samson’s POV in the future. But please don’t market them as Alex Cross mysteries. I adore Alex Cross stories and get excited when I see a new one in the shelves. Don’t play with my heart like that Mr. Patterson. And Samson deserves to shine in his own merit. Let him out of Alex’s shadow!
