A refreshing take on the classic tale. Fry takes care to make the story not just be a laundry list of mythical figures and their deeds of bravery, but actually takes the time to explore the different dimensions of all characters.
'You bastard son of a mongrel bitch ... How dare you? I've come all this way to help you win back your sister-in-law ... I should strike you down like the treacherous, whining, stinking, cowardly dog you are.'

I've enjoyed both Stephen Fry's previous Greek myth books so far, and this one is another solid instalment! I still feel like Mythos is the best of the bunch, but as someone mostly not interested in the Greek myths, his writing is compelling. I recommend listening to them especially, as Stephen Fry's narration is one of the best regardless of book.

Maybe one day I will be brave and determined enough to read the Iliad...
I really enjoyed the audiobook. It’s like Stephen Fry is your uncle telling you the story of Troy and making up dialogue. I just don’t think he does much to it other than retelling it? Like it didn’t have a different perspective like Song of Achilles, so it’s hard to rate. So I’m doing a neutral 3 stars.
My favorite narrator, I could listen to him on repeat. Ive read a number of different adaptations of this classic story but this is the first with a good portion dedicated to history beforehand - which I enjoyed and appreciated. Will definitely listen again
Stephen Fry always retells the myths with so much personality, it’s such an easy read
