The combination of Andrew Child and narrator Scott Brick have ended my reading Jack Reacher. No humanity in Reacher with this book. I forced my way through 70% and decided I could spend my time in other ways. Goodbye Jack and Lee. It was a nice run.

It’s been a while since I read anything from this series, so maybe I’m not remembering it well, but this story doesn’t completely seem to have Reacher’s authentic voice. I don’t remember his POV being written in first person, which it is in this book, and I found it a little jarring. And perhaps it is because Reacher is getting older, but he doesn’t seem as confident. He keeps questioning his odds, saying he almost lost a fight in a move, etc. Maybe it’s the addition of Andrew Child.
Despite that, as far as plot, this was a pretty classic Reacher tale. It’s action-packed and has spots of humor.

I really hated the previous book with the Andrew Child as co-author. I was giving it another chance and this one is somewhat better, but the ending is so muddled and difficult to follow that is kind of ends on a bad note. It is an improvement, albeit a small one. I am game for one more, but if it is not improved, I think I may be done with Reacher.
Reacher at his Reacheriest. I liked that I had absolutely no idea how this was going to turn out.

Meh. Ik heb jaren terug en aantal boeken in deze serie gelezen en in mijn herinnering waren die een stuk beter dan deze. Zoveel korte zinnetjes. En beschrijvingen van simpele handelingen. In heel veel detail. Lekker boeien.
Impossible to post spoilers but this book works through the classic Reacher checklist in consummate fashion
