I've read every Reacher book up to this point (by publication date) and I think this was the weakest. It had a dull story that was hampered by being in first person. It adds good lore to Reacher overall, but the book itself is lacking.
I was kind of disappointed in this one. Too many long descriptive fight scenes and not enough personal stuff that makes Reacher, well, Reacher. Won’t deter me from the series tho as it’s one of my favorites. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review
Nogal langdradige beschrijvingen , niet de beste Jack Reacher. Effect van gecombineerd schrijverschap?
Ehhh… I didn’t like this one as much as the older books. The staccato sentences were really starting to wear on my nerves, as were the lengthy descriptions of everything. I found myself taking a lot longer to finish the last 50-75 pages because I couldn’t keep my attention on it!
Better off Unread?
I’ve never given Jack Reacher less than 5 stars. This one was not my favourite, and I don’t know if it’s because I have a subliminal wariness, due to the co-author situation.
Reacher stumbles across a small, dusty town. Finds a woman, a diner, a problem, and some bad guys. Drinks some coffee. Headbutts a few bad guys. Tells the time in his head. Pulls back a few layers of the problem to reveal the real problem. And solves it. And then moseys out of town.
But he does all of those Reacher Things with less of his usual Reacherness. I like my Reacher Things to have an extra dose of Reacherness. Ego, only 3 stars.

An interesting read. A lot of misdirection. I think it's okay. Would have been nice to have more action.
Reacher is on the road when he spots a jeep rammed in to a tree. The passenger is still alive. She is Michaela Fenton, ex-military turned FBI agent. She is looking for herbtwin brother whom she believes is in serious trouble.
The town is basically run by the mysterious Dendoncker and his goons. Reacher promises to help Michaela but every one of Dendoncker's men he tries to question would rather die than give up their boss. A wish Reacher has no problem fulfilling.
There can only be one winner and Reacher is going to make sure that the winner is him.

I realize this is part of a very long-running series, but even so, there was absolutely no character development or introduction of who Jack Reacher is, which made it very hard for me to get into the story. Many scenes of the book also seemed to be specifically written to easily translate into a TV/movie script, with blow by blow descriptions of Reacher beating up various bad guys. The general plot was interesting and had some good twists, although it tied up in a bow pretty quickly at the end.
