I give this book 4 stars only because it was more focused on a specific audience than I expected. Although Glennon’s theme focuses on her children growing up and motherhood, it was a very good book with multiple messages throughout. Her past experiences and road to embracing her wild is inspiring. I too have come to understand my “knowing” and aspire to hear it daily. We should all be fucking cheetahs.

I had conflicting feelings throughout this book. Is this a memoir? I struggle with putting my criticism into words because I, too, am a woman trying to exist in this world. I, too, have some inherent privilege. Despair is physical for me, too. Hope is energy for me, too. However, in my attempts to recognize my own strengths and set boundaries, I hope not to bulldoze others on the journey. How selfish is too selfish? Is it ok to be selfish in some ways but not others? In some contexts but not others? Who determines this? What does it mean to call yourself a feminist anymore?

I saw somebody say they couldn't stop rolling their eyes at Glennon's use of metaphors, but I appreciated it. This story is obviously deeply personal to the author. Why can't a woman be self-indulgent? This book comforted me; it confused me. I didn't necessarily learn anything new, but I didn't read this expecting Glennon to bring me revolutionary ideas about progressive topics. In some ways, I strive to be more like Glennon or even her daughter - unabashed, emotional, untamed.

DNF at page 179. It reads more like a collection of influencer-y instagram captions rather than a memoir. The first half was somehow more compelling… by the second half it just seemed to me that she wanted back pats for Doing Parenting, which I found tedious.
