This felt so nostalgic to me. I can’t wait to see where this series ends up.

I like this. It feels like a "classic" isekai. Some heavy mystery around both MC's, and the portal around the street. I'm suspicious of the housekeeper lady who lives with her and her grandfather, something's up with her, not sure what yet, but something.

It was…okay. Honestly, was expecting it to be more like Inuyasha in terms of violent/graphic battles. It did enjoy it nonetheless, and will give the second volume a shot just to see if it picks up.

'Ramna 1/2' was my introduction to manga as a kid in the '90s, and since reading the recent reprints of the dark, unfortunately short, folk horror 'Mermaid Saga' this year, I think maybe I had too high expectations for what seemed to be a slower-paced, antiquarian, supernatural series. All these things apply, although it isn't the serious or dark route I was hoping Rumiko Takahashi would settle into in her 60s. I still plan on keeping up with it though.

This review will be for the whole series; read at your own risk!

[b:InuYasha: Turning Back Time|330744|InuYasha, Vol. 1 Turning Back Time (InuYasha, #1)|Rumiko Takahashi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1288648681l/330744._SY75_.jpg|2297814] is one of my all-time favorite mangas/animes so it should come as no surprise that I loved this! It's a similar premise, but feels like a mashup of Inuyasha and Takahashi-sensei's other series, [b:Rin-ne, Vol. 1|6661062|Rin-ne, Vol. 1|Rumiko Takahashi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348258304l/6661062._SY75_.jpg|6855830]. But so far I like the mystery and I like our characters. They don't quite have the charm of the Inuyasha characters, but I like them well enough. I look forward to more!

I like the plot of this and how quickly it's moving. I hope it won't be a million volumes long like Inuyasha!

Edit 2/11/22: I'm so intrigued with this mystery! What did Mao do?! And what's up with these other guys?? And
Spoileris Nanako's grandfather really Byouki?!!

I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I really liked this manga. It is reminiscent of Inuyasha in the sense that the main character, Nanoko, can travel either back in time or to a different universe. While it is similar in this sense, I felt it does diverge a bit after that in the back story of Nanoko. There is a bit of something for everyone in here. There's action, mystery, and an intriguing story of a girl who is trying to remember what happened in the car accident she can't seem to remember years earlier.

The artwork is well done and in the typical style of Rumiko Takahashi. If you liked Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2, then you will enjoy this new series by this very talented manga author.

CW: Blood, Violence, Death of a Parent, Car Accident

This series is a great start to a new fantasy story from one of Japan's best mangaka, Rumiko Takahashi. In it we follow a girl named Nanako who had a tragic accident when she was little, losing her parents. She walks through a mysterious gate and meets an exorcist named Mao. After getting attacked by a demon, she starts to search for the mystery of her past. And Mao says she herself...is an ayakashi?
I loved this volume! This has wonderful InuYasha vibes! If you're looking for a new fantasy manga to read, pick up this one!
