A solid, sweet, funny novel in the Wallbanger series.

What can I say… this was so CUTE. Genuinely laugh out loud funny and there as even a moment that mirrors one of my own (ahem, bat in the house) not to mention I LOVE seeing characters from previous books make appearances. Clark was sweet and sexy and smart, truly a dream guy for readers like me. And Vivian was funny and headstrong and so easy to root for/love.

Hank was a fucking loser.

I love the idea of a fresh start. I love found family. I love creating beauty from clutter. This was fun and breezy and light while still holding something really sentimental at its core.

This book was deliciously spicy and I liked the way Viv made herself the heroine of her own story. It was an entertaining book to listen to and the reappearance of Simon, Caroline, Mimi, and Ryan was a nice callback.

“Why ride a cowboy when you can ride a librarian?” Clark and Vivian finally being together may have been at the very end of the book, but it was very worth the build-up. All of that ‘opposites attract’ tension made for a very happily ever after.

The way Viv romanticized her own life made me want to do that more in my own. 🩵

THIS IS MY FAVORITE IN THE WHOLE SERIES! NEW OTP

Critically
Plot – 4.5 out of 5 stars
hilarious, entertaining, a bit predictable, lots of day to day descriptions, heaps of sexual tension, sweet, realistic, honest

Writing Style – 4 out of 5 stars
hilarious, fast paced, detailed, descriptive, some cheesy sections, realistic, adjustment to accommodate the new POV

Characters – 5 out of 5 stars
The characters from this book completely won me over and became my favorites of the whole series!
Vivian is amazing. She has such a contrasting personality. She’s spunky and stubborn and really smart. But at the same time, she’s a huge romantic and loves cheesy things and is sometimes completely overly dramatic. She’s also kind of clueless but it’s really endearing, and I love her!
Then we have two different male protagonists who are totally and completely different from each other. There is a slight prejudice on this slight love triangle but it makes a lot of sense and also makes the plot incredibly entertaining. Everything about this book is amazing.

Emotionally
SpoilerThis is one of my favorite adult contemporary series ever. It’s so entertaining and funny and I was completely enthralled with it.

The third book is my favorite one in the whole series! Which is actually kind of surprising because I was a little apprehensive when I started it.

The plot is entertaining. We follow Vivian, one of Simon’s best friends, as she suddenly inherits her great-aunts house all the way across the country from her family, in Mendocino, CA. Convinced her life is now a romance novel come to life, she makes it her mission to get herself a man, but things don’t turn out like she thought. As always with this author, the plot is totally hilarious and entertaining. We’re in a new place with a whole bunch of new characters that are really interesting and complex. It was a little bit predictable. There’s a mild love triangle and you definitely know who gonna end up the winner in the end but it’s so much fun to see the main character be a bit clueless and slowly get her shit together. It’s really hilarious to see her attempt to create what she thinks she wants and be carefully turned off by that idea.

Viv is awesome. She’s really spunky and sassy so while similar to Caroline is somethings, you can tell their differences in this mental chatter. She’s rough around the edges and really stubborn which makes for amazing and funny banter between the main characters. But she also has a very fangirl side to her, the girl who’s obsessed with romance and romance novels Harlequin style and who only wants to have that kind of experience for herself.

All the side characters are pretty great in this one, I love how we got to know each one better little by little. The love interests are total opposites and I love one more than the other (obviously) but they were both really intriguing and entertaining. I just loved this book so much, I’m totally obsessed with it.

There really isn't a better author than Alice Clayton. Her books are witty and tell a believable story. I do t take too much seriously, and this book was just awesome. I sort of picked up where she was going with the story but it was still awesome!

I liked the main characters but there was potential for so much more development, of both the characters and plot. I was disappointed by how quickly the story was just ended.

This may be my favorite of the series. It's fun to watch Viv as she pivots from the hot (dumb) worker to the nerdy (also hot) librarian. "Nighttime Clark" may be one of my favorite characters. It's always fun when the uptight, stuffy guy lets loose a little.

I'm usually not a big fan of heroines who are too lacking in introspection to understand their own feelings, but in a comedy (which this surely is), I'm open to giving characters more leeway. After some early twenty-something rebellion (a year in France painting), Viv Franklin returns home to follow in the footsteps of her father and four elder brothers, establishing her own successful software company. But when her great aunt leaves her a beach house in Mendocino, Viv decides to check it out herself before she decides to sell it out of hand. And of course Viv falls in love—with the town, with the house, and, so she believes, with the hunky cowboy Hank, who's been hired to take care of the house's two horses. It's destiny, a plot right out of one of her favorite romance novel, she believes. All she has to do is make the rather oblivious Hank notice her...

While Viv waits. though, she has to content with town librarian and historical preservation society director Clark, who takes issue not only with Viv's brash personality, but with her on-the-fly plans to renovate her historically significant house. Will secret rebel Viv bend the surly cowboy to her will? Perhaps, if she can stop fighting with nerdy Clark...

A lighthearted comic romp, with an appealingly beta hero. Though sexy times don't ensue until far into the book, when they do, they are suitably Clayton-worthy.
