Well, the book has 4 musketeers. I love books by Alexander Dumas. An adventurous book, it is a true classic.
I think that I remembered an epic, swashbuckling romance, but all I really got was an overly long, drawn-out story with some espionage that didn't fully pay off. There are some great moments that are quite funny and exciting, but overall it was a bit of a letdown.

possibly one of my favorite adventure novels. this is a classic that involves a dashing young man (our protagonist d'artagnan) and his comrades (who he has NO homoerotic tension w at all, especially the mysterious heartbroken older one LOOL) who fight for the safety and honor of their homeland and their good soverign.
it's a very cliche novel BUT it's enjoyable. several of the stuff that d'artagnan is terrifyingly stupid but that's what happens when you're a hot blooded young man high off of testosterone and his own self importance.
love it lmao it fucking broke my heart up when these four had to separate because like what the hell WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
yeah so
i have my dads copy which i taped together and i fixed

The story started off strong, and continued this exciting pace throughout, except for the second quarter of the novel. All in all, it was a masterfully written tale of adventure, debauchery, and friendship. I feel better off for having read it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Alys is the poor relation. She's at the mercy of her mercurial cousin, a pawn and a scapegoat for endless schemes. She is infinitely weary of her stationary life, and dreams of a family of her own. When the handsome gardner singles her out for attention, she is confused and suspicious of his motives.
Kit's true reason for masquerading as a gardner may be a secret of state, but he is also fighting his inconvenient attraction to Alys. He senses that she can creep beneath his guard, and he refuses to be distracted from the mission at hand.
Their innocuous glances, subtle touches and sparkling exchanges soon set them on the path of no return.
This romance set in a world of Tudor intrigue and espionage was a welcome escape.

I really enjoy Alexandre Dumas's writing. The plot was completely different from any of the movies I watched growing up, which made it even more entertaining to read because I couldn't spend the entire time comparing it to the movie.
