Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Alys is the poor relation. She's at the mercy of her mercurial cousin, a pawn and a scapegoat for endless schemes. She is infinitely weary of her stationary life, and dreams of a family of her own. When the handsome gardner singles her out for attention, she is confused and suspicious of his motives.

Kit's true reason for masquerading as a gardner may be a secret of state, but he is also fighting his inconvenient attraction to Alys. He senses that she can creep beneath his guard, and he refuses to be distracted from the mission at hand.

Their innocuous glances, subtle touches and sparkling exchanges soon set them on the path of no return.

This romance set in a world of Tudor intrigue and espionage was a welcome escape.

I really enjoy Alexandre Dumas's writing. The plot was completely different from any of the movies I watched growing up, which made it even more entertaining to read because I couldn't spend the entire time comparing it to the movie.

Absolutely loved it!!

Having read this more because I felt I should than because I was actually interested, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. D'Artagnan and the Musketeers are depicted in exquisite detail, as is the nefarious Milady. I loved reading now-cliches such as "all for one and one for all" and "it was a dark and stormy night" in their original context.

This is another classic that I read for the first time in high school and revisited this summer in preparation to see a stage adaptation. During this summer's reading, I was struck by the jokes and the humor Dumas includes throughout - it actually is quite funny. Some of the action, especially in the first half seems to run around itself without a real end goal in sight, which can make the first half a bit tedious, but once the reader (or, "dear reader," as Dumas is wont to call us) puts all the characters and the action together, it becomes a dazzling adventure. I read the last 200 hundred pages in just a couple days, compared to the first half which took me over a month due due to a slight disinterest.
Overall, well worth reading and well worth reading again if you, like me, first visited this novel as a high school sophomore.

Fun read with laugh out loud dialog. Historical fiction story of friendship, intrigue, and vengeance. One of the most diabolical, cold hearted villains I've read. Definitely enjoyed this classic.

Quite good - full of witty phrases that sadly didn't make it into other media appropriations...

More like the four musketeers, let’s be honest.
Also, this was nothing like I thought it would be.
Too long.
