I was a little worried about my feelings towards this book after reading a Duet with the Siren Duke. After the first two books in this series I felt like the stories just weren’t as strong. This book however shoots up past most of the other books and lands right under A Deal with the Elf King. I think what I loved most about this book was that it was about friendship as much as it was about the love interest. Aurora and Faelyns relationship felt natural and very supportive of the other. I also liked how Evander and Faelyns relationship developed. Aside from the hot werewolf trope, I liked how they could joke together and how they supported each other through a rather traumatic experience. I also liked how there was talk about how a family doesn’t have to be created through blood alone. The only thing that kept this from shooting to the top was that some of the tropes that tend to come with werewolf stories, and the whole alpha idea of the Wolfpack. Thankfully, I think Elise’s intent is to criticize that way of thinking with her story, though you don’t see it come to fruition till very late in the story.
If you love a story about werewolves and a Red Riding-hood retelling, this book is one you should pick up.

This beautiful book. It pulled on my heart.

I have forgotten how talented Elise Kova is at writing romances where you can feel the emotions vibrating off the pages.

This book tells the story of Faelyn, Evander and Aurora. It tells the story of 3 souls so woven together that not even fate could keep apart. It tells the story of love, friendship, loyalty and suffering.

I have no place with the lykin. I cannot shed my flesh for fur and run with the spirits of the ancient wood. But I have no place with the humans, either. When they look at me, they see an other.

Faelyn is a witch from the woods that lives on the fringes of the Natural lands and have been tasked with protecting it from the predators that live beyond the barrier that separates the land where magic flows and is governed by magical creatures, some of them good and some so cruel, and the land of the humans, where people that have magic live isolated never belonging.
One day Faelyn is traversing into the woods just behind the barrier, fulfilling her duty by scattering the ashes of her beloved grandmother when she is interrupted by an ethereal young woman and the next thing she knows she is accidentally bound to Aurora. The moon spirit. But Faelyn has no idea just how much her life is about to change.

Evander is a sworn knight of the Lykin King, Corin. Forced to vow loyalty to Corin, Evander has suffered a lot. He watched his last living relative be killed by the same king that he then was forced to swear fealthy. He has been forced to carry on unspeakable acts by this cruel king that will stop at nothing to be the only ruler of the Lykin people. But when he is tasked to retrieve Aurora from the human lands, he also has no idea just how much his life is about to change and his loyalty is about to be put to test.

“Does keeping us all safe even matter if it breaks us in the process?”

These 3 interwoven souls must work together to achieve greater freedom from the cruelty of Corin and the Lykin people who only see Aurora as possession, Faelyn as a means to an end and Evander as the glaring reminder of those who oppose to the laws of Corin.

“Sometimes… getting lost for a while is the best way to be found.”

This book is a romance with fantasy. I loved how Elise developed this story and how she was able to keep me wondering.

I could feel the emotions vibrating through the pages of this book. The love Faelyn and Evander had for each other. The kind and beautiful friendship Faelyn and Aurora created with one another. To have a true friend whom you can finally trust to always have your back. I am so incredibly floored by how beautiful and painful this book was.

I cannot wait for the next installment in this series ans I am currently wondering just what type of creatures will feature in it. Thank you Book of Matches and Media for the incredible opportunity to read this early copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
