I loved this book! We are finally getting the Shifters, Elise Kova has created a world that I keep getting drawn to. The Married to Magic series has followed four different species Elves, Fae, Vampyres, and Sirens and now we have Shifters in Dawn with the Wolf Knight and I was hooked from the first few chapters.
Faelyn, our FMC, is a witch who’s trying to figure out what she’s gonna do now that her grandmother is gone, she walks into the woods asking the spirits for protection and guidance. She ends up stumbling across a young girl Aurora who is the moon spirit and vows to protect her from the Wolf king and take her to the Tree of Life so she may be restored to her full spirit self. While Aurora rests, Faelyn goes into town where the humans live to gather supplies for their journey, but when she returns her cottage is burned to the ground and Aurora is gone.
Faelyn uses help from the two spirits she’s bound to from her grandmother Mary a flower spirit and Folost a fire spirit to find Aurora but the wolf knights Bardulf and Evander who are guarding Aurora and escorting her back have different plans once they find out Faelyn has half the moon spirits power in her.
Forced to go to Lykin territory Faelyn is determined to escape and help Aurora return to her home in the sky, she knows she needs help and Evander the wolf knight tasked with being her sole protector is always on her mind.
Elise Kova writes such addicting stories that are hard to put down, Wolf Knight was no exception. I adored the female friendship between Aurora and Faelyn. The friendship Faelyn has with Mary, Folost and the other spirits she meets in Lykin territory. I love the relationship between her and Evander. He was swoony and caring and theres a you came- you called scene that I just can’t stop thinking about.
If you like Little Red Riding Hood inspired retellings, forbidden romance with I’ll always be there for you vibes, female friendships, you should definitely pick up Dawn with the Wolf Knight, and you don’t need to have read the other Married to Magic books to read this one they are standalones in the same world it’s more fun if you do though!

“Immense power is worth little if taken by force. I only want what is freely offered, and won’t have it any other way.”
This is the last (maybe last?) book in the Married to Magic series. In this one, we've moved into the Lykin Plains but there is a bit of travel around as well, which was fun. The concept of spirits was interesting to me, how they were Faelyns friends and how they manifested. I always like books that include these types of characters.
I really liked how kind Faelyn was, to Aurora and the spirits. Even after all her hardships she still didn’t want to use anyone or take advantage of them. The entire plot revolved around how kind-hearted she was.
“I told you, I have done horrible things. Things that would make your throat burn with nausea. I will continue to do horrible things, so long as that man is in power...But…it is not because I want to. I desperately, desperately cling to whatever shred of decency I can. Because…”
“Because?” I breathe, hanging on his words. He takes a small step forward, voice dropping even further.
“Because I like to dream that, one day, I might be free of him. And, when I am, I would like to be a man that can sleep at night.”
Evander was super great. He was so protective and sweet but also hawt lmao.
THE REVEAL. Ohmygod, I did not see that coming! At all! Love a good surprise reveal like that. But I was also a fan of that reveal too, I think it gave some nice “come full circle” feelings. But at the same time, it also didn't make sense? Why didn't she recognize him? It hadn't been that long and it's not like he got a new face?
“But he hasn’t hurt me, so far,” I point out.
“Other than forcing you to marry him.”
“Given the position he’s in, it’s—”
“Do not make excuses for him,” Evander cuts me off coldly.
I didn’t like how naive and seriously dumb Faelyn. That sounds harsh but it’s like she had no backbone or brain. She just saw what was right in front of her and never thought beyond that. Her trusting the wolf king almost made me stop reading because of how annoying it was. Hardcore rolling my eyes and putting the book down for all of that section. Even after she realized he was compelling her, she's still like "eh, he's a good guy, doesn't matter that he keeps trying to assault me, he'll change when I tell him my plans." Like, get it the fuck together.
“I have no idea where this ‘kindness’ of which you speak has been.” I narrow my eyes and don’t move.
“You’re breathing, aren’t you?”
“Careful, the bar is so low you might trip.”
The ending was great but quite abrupt. I would have liked more.
Thank you to the author for this eARC!

A beautifully written Red Riding Hood reimagining where she unwittingly falls in love with the big bad wolf.
Faelyn isn't a warrior... she's a crafty little witch with the biggest heart. She goes into the woods and finds another girl, Aurora, on the run. Together, they flee and make plans to return Aurora to her rightful place in the night sky. She is the spirit of the moon, trapped in a mortal body, and the lycan have trapped for millenia. Enter Evander 🐺 A knight to the wolf king and possibly the only one on their side. We finally get to experience the Lycan fields of Midscape. The friendship between Faelyn and Aurora was my favorite! And the spice 🔥🤌 It's bittersweet that this is the end of the Married to Magic series (for now 😏). I'm looking forward to what Elise has up her sleeve for us next!
