The book revolves around Faelyn, a young witch whose family line witches has been responsible for maintaining the barrier between the human world and the lykin (wolf shifters). As she buries her grandmother, she becomes involved in an ongoing saga between the wolf King and his pack, on one hand, and the moon spirit, on the other. From there, she finds herself the object of the wolf King’s unwanted and yet seemingly irresistible attentions. Meanwhile, an unlikely partnership develops between her and one of his knights.
As she travels with the wolf pack to a sacred place where she is to marry the wolf King, she often appears to be falling into his lure. Like some other Elise Kova books, the Happily Ever After ending is not quite as one would expect and there are some kinks in the fairy tale ending. The book is, obviously, quite focused on the romance so don't expect a very elaborate plot. The world-building blocks have been gradually added onto throughout the various stand-alone books that have come before this one so, while not necessary, it would be good to read the other books for more context.
There were several heated situations which will delight the more adventurous romantasy reader. Being a stand-alone novel, the plot was also fast-paced, which was a welcome break when one is accustomed to the usual multi-book series favoured by the fantasy genre.
I was pretty ambivalent about the FMC, who I found rather naive and impressionable. For the first half of the book, at least, Faelyn was not the strong FMC I am used to Kova’s other books like the Loom Chronicles and the Air Awakens series. Her willful blindness often disappointed me.
The book also could have used the services of a proofreader to deal with some unfortunate errors which I found very irritating from such an experienced author.
That being said, if you are looking for a light, stand-alone romantasy read without a complicated plot, this will tick all the boxes. Especially because there is no cliffhanger here.

As much as I liked other books in this series, this book was a huge disappointment for me. I loved the idea of a weaver witch and being introduced to all the spirits of Midscape, but the story itself was not my cup of tea. The wolf powers in general were very off-putting and having the bad guys basically threaten to rape the FMC every few chapters got very old very fast. I also figured out the details of Evander/Faelyn's relationship pretty quickly, so it kind of ruined the build up.
