The romance was kind of like insta-lovey? The FMC had a lot more chances to make good choices and consistently made the wrong ones. Interesting concept and premise but just fell flat for me. Spent most of the book just being annoyed lol

I enjoyed some parts of this book, but the pacing felt very uneven and the end just seemed like a lot coincidences coming together, to make the plot make sense. Copelan’s existence was annoying with his inconsistent general personality and decision making. I like the visual impact of the dancing and the castle and the found family was the strength of this book.

DID NOT FINISH: 12%

Got 12% in and just was not interested. Which is a shame cos the premise seemed right up my alley. But the narrative style just wasn’t for me. Quite repetitive and overly descriptive. Also felt kind of info dumpy and that combined with the interjections of the FMCs backstory and flashback memories just threw the pacing right off.

More like 1.5 ⭐️ but rounded up.
This debut had a good premise but lacked any (good) plot.
Good on the author to try and bring disability visibility to the world but it seems the only impact it has on it is how Vasalie has a constant internal monologue of “I can’t do this, I’m out of breath, etc” and then does everything all the same, but feels dizzy at the end.
The plot is obvious, the twists are predictable, and the romance is very dubious. I think it tries to have two romantic interests, but the chemistry was so lacking that I only realised it was trying to imply romance/lust when something actually happened, and even then I felt confused.
The villains were the most interesting part but only because they are stereotypical bad guys so it’s really easy to hate them.
A shame that the characters lacked any personality because I was intrigued enough to keep reading, and it sets up everything for a sequel, but I’m definitely not interested in continuing this.
