Okay, I don’t really know how to rate this book.

A lot of the writing was cringy. The main character was actually super annoying and I considered DNFing it, but was intrigued enough to keep going. The only reason it got 3 stars is because obviously I enjoyed it enough to finish.

The book also has no real ending, which I get for a book in a series but there’s no actual plot conclusion or anything. Which is only frustrating to me this time because so many things annoyed me about the writing and the protagonist.

DID NOT FINISH

Juvenile

This book it’s great if you are into the mythical or fantasy type of story. However, i think for one the trope of enemies to lover there is a way to do it and this aint it. I live their chemistry but its a lot of toxicity within their relationship. I think this book for a young adult who is starting out in this genre is great just not for a mature adult if you know what i mean.
adventurous dark emotional medium-paced

I don't know guys..... I just don't know. I liked it. I think?

If she ends up with her true mate by the end of the series- I will riot. There is no redeeming that douchebag.

Mera spends her youth being abused for the sins of her father, desperately waiting for the day she turns 22, experiences her first shift into a wolf and can finally escape. None of that goes to plan and Mera is pulled into an even bigger war that she cannot win alone.

I have been suffering through a Fourth Wing hangover, reading books and not really feeling much for them. This series however has me in a chokehold in the best way!

If, like me, you enjoy the following things, then head straight to your kindle and read this series now (free with kindle unlimited):
-Enemies to lovers
-The slowest slow burn
-Banter between the female and male main character
-No big chunks of information or reading, everything is split up which means its not boring and can be quickly read.

3.5 stars

Reading all the 5 star reviews I thought it would be better, but... it's just ...bad

It was interesting in the beginning - enough to keep going, although there is little done and solved during the whole book..

Some parts of the world building reminded me of bits a pieces from other books. So for me it was like a mix from all the best books, and then it's not even explored in this book to the best of its abitities... it's munched all together and produced mediocre kind of world description..

There are lots of inner monologues that change directions 180 degrees in either directions. And the actions do not match with the monologes... Reading some of them made me think of the Heroine as a strong and mature woman... but most actions are teenage-like, and the whole bet to "loose the virginity" is so immature and cring-worthy, I almost DFNed it at that point.
The mystery of her abilities or of the Shadow world apparently were not as important as virginity. Nooo, why would you care about it, if you haven't been laid yet??
You have to be bullied to finally start paying attention and to start exploring half-heartedly about those mysteries...

There is no real effort to find anything out, and the whole "talk back" while being bullied is not being as strong as she thinks it is.
Growing up alone and being bullied makes you smart enough to trust your instincts (add to that animal wolf instinct). It give you ability to pause, and understand your opponent, find weakness and apply that knowledge in fighting back using multiple techniques depending on the person you fight in the particular time and situation you are in. Sometimes you just need to know when and how to avoid the conflict, or when shut up for sheer self-preservation or when to your brain fight back, or when to use you strength, or when to use your "smart come-backs".
So the whole bulling thing does not match with the main character outcome. She does not use her instincts at all. She thinks she looks strong and witty? Hm.. but most of the times she looks like "stupid and immature teenager".

Also if you could have rejected the mate bond by yourself as she started doing and was interrupted, why not do it again as soon as she found another opportunity?

So even though the book has potential, it's still lacking.

Almost DNF. This was so bad... Ugh.
Giving it two stars for kindness.

Finally gave in and finished it, loved the different story lines that I'm sure will happen but the back and forth between the two main characters became null to me. I don't want to add more in fear of spoilers but will say the rushing away from the intro still has me pondering of those characters and I hate it
