Off to a great start with this series. Mera is a fantastic character - I loved her sarcasm and wit and irreverence. The rest - I’m not sure who to trust yet ! We shall see ….
A bit slow, but I enjoyed the entire series.

After falling in love with the Curse of the Gods and Supernatural Prison series, I definitely needed to dive into another addicting series written by Jaymin. Without realizing that I've already started the Hive Trilogy and ghosting it.. I decided to dive into the Shadow Beast Shifters.
I mean, I honestly had zero hesitations on my end diving into this one. I just didn't realize that I never finished a series of hers before doing so. Oops? Oh well? Maybe later..
Entering into Rejected, it seems to follow a simple storyline that most shifter books tend to do. You meet the main character, Mera, who is basically treated less than dirt by everyone within her wolf pack. Her mother is basically nonexistent since her father was brutally murdered for challenging their alpha. Luckily, she has her two best friends to keep her sort of sane but if she really just wants to run away from this dumb pack.
She does but then she gets caught and dragged back to that horrible place. Not sure why they just didn't let her live her life being a server but apparently they don't give a shit about her happiness. She is their torture play thing and they love to make her suffer. So it's pretty obvious who her supposed mate is going to be and man - I just felt bad for her.
After being rejected, she ends up calling the shadow beast which scares the piss out of some of the pack. Enter this sexy ass man who doesn't like being called on like a genie or whatever. He's not here to grant her three wishes but does end up taking her back to his lair. Along the way, they end up having very cute ass bantering and I'm pretty sure she ended up worming her way into his heart.
Things do heat up once they enter the fae realm.. but that's about it. Yeah, I got some teasing moments and they obviously had some sexual frustration/tension too BUT I wanted more. So much freaking more from these two. Ugh!
In the end, her dumb pack is acting dumber and she has unleashed a whole bunch of darkness. She's pissed and rightfully so. I can't wait for everyone to realize how much they fucked up when it came to her. Bring it on!

Some quick things I hadn't read from other reviews, that I'd like to state:
- There's body shaming, slut/sex shaming, and ableist slurs (r* variety).
- The slurs are internal monologue from the FMC, body and sex shaming towards mostly another woman, sort of The Other Woman situation. Don't get me wrong, the person being shamed is awful and it isn't random - but still a huge eyeroll and cringe (derogatory) while reading.
I can't excuse either, but the r* slur being used multiple times, is especially jarring and horrible to read in a book.
Apart from that (even though I almost DNF'd because of the early slur)... It was okay. The world is pretty interesting, the MMC is hot, the FMC isn't unreasonably helpless. She had a spark, for sure, even though she gets kinda repetitive. She also gets
I desperately needed more interaction between the MCs, though. Any conversation to make the end (a huge cliffhanger, btw) be more meaningful. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Don't go in expecting to only read the first book, also. I haven't read the second yet, but again the end is a HUGE CLIFFHANGER, and seems to be only the beginning.

This is a hard hitting ride that is as emotionally dubious as it is compelling. Shunned from the pack that raised her, for reasons not her own, Mera is just bidding her time till she can escape the terror of her daily life... until the unthinkable happens.
The punches start hitting the reader in the first few pages, but really ramp up by the time the Winter Solstice comes around, leaving us bleeding and soul torn, just like Mera. It's horrific - and so dang good I almost cried. I LOVE Mera! She is young yet mature in the harsher truths of life, and somehow determined to carve her own path with what little time she believes she is allotted.
Her journey is fraught with subtle angst, though at no point do you get the impression that she is a whiney child rebelling against her station. No, she snarks back and far too often lands herself in more trouble because her mouth lacks the wisdom her heart has gained.... but it suits her, and it suits the narrative incredibly well.
By the time that cliffhanger dangled me off the edge (honestly though, yes, there is a cliff, but it is NOT as bad as some reviewers have implied) I found myself thoroughly and intensely invested in this story. I need to know what happens with Mera, WHO is she really? HOW is she? Torin can go pound sand, but Jaxson intrigues me somewhat. And Shadow? Oh goodness.... HE IS EVERYTHING!

This novel weaves and entices just as much as it bludgeons the reader with emotion - a slow seduction with a slap in the face, and I am so here for it. Delightful, painful and a true 'must read' aura
