This series is sooo good! I'm on my second re-read of it this year! This is the rejected mate trope done well. It's the example that all books should be held to.

Mera is our heroine, she's been basically tortured and bullied by her wolf pack for her father trying to kill the alpha years ago. Everyone takes out their frustrations on her when it's not her fault. On the day she has her first shift, she finds out she's the true mate to the alpha's son. But he doesn't want anything to do with her, so rejects her. In her pain and anguish, her pain calls to the Shadow Beast, the wolf god creator.

I don't want to give too much away, but the world-building and character development are 5 star! Seriously Jaymin weaves a masterful tale to build up the romance between Mera and Shadow.

The FMC!
I love a leading lady with sass and Mera has sass and snark for days. The way she adapts and looks at the world has me wanting more.

The Hero!
Shadow is our growly alpha-hole! He's basically a God and has loads of power, but there's just something about Mera that he can't ignore. The push and pull between them is out of this world.

The Smut!
This is a slow build-up. Loads of tension, but we do get some sexy times between them.

The cover of this books sets expectations that the text does not fulfil. I was expecting a spicy shifter book with lots of smutty details. I got a story about a whiny girl who was, you know like a total bad ass because she had been tormented her whole life (said with all the sarcasm). There was no slow burn here, and I literally thought the idea of a bet to lose her virginity was so childish for a book for adults. And, in order to preserve her virginity they do not have sex in the heteronormative sense. And, it only happens once and isn't worth the build up. I am not inspired to read the rest of the series. 2/5 stars
dark mysterious slow-paced

Interesting. However, I hate cliffhangers.

So let’s start this review off by stating I liked it but it’s not on my re-read list.

So here goes:

-Mera (h) is not a weak character although at times she doesn’t know how to keep her mouth shut and her sarcastic tendencies make you roll your eyes at times. But even though she’s scared she doesn’t let that fear stop her from living her life.

- I enjoyed the worlds and the set up, at times my eyes glazed over a bit with information BUT it is critical information in order to understand the dynamics of the setting?

- The romance, or lack thereof, is building slowly. I love a rejected mates book where the h moves on and finds someone better who appreciates the bond and isn’t willing to sacrifice it for ANYTHING. There’s sexual tension between her and Shadow but after reading roughly 300 pages I am left as frustrated as Mera is!

- The action is there and so are the twists as Mera discovers who and what she is, which I absolutely love.

The only thing I’m not a fan of is cliffhangers BUT I knew that about this book beforehand so I can’t get too upset about it, at least all the books are out already with these main characters.
