Another enjoyable read, an interesting case although I telegraphed the ending and what was coming. Didn't spoil a good story and this is a nice change to detective fiction.

Gianrico Carafiglio opens Temporary Perfections by casting the reader into a dream like state as he describes a chance meeting of minds between the protagonist, Guido Geurrieri, a defence lawyer, and a shy cab driver. The two strike up an intriguing conversation based on the books piled on the seat next to the cab driver. Carafiglio continues to ride the states between being attentive and day dreaming as the plot involving a missing young woman unfolds. The tension created makes for a compelling read.

Quello che colpisce di più è la figura dell’Avvocato Guerrieri, di una umanità così spiazzante che mi riesce difficile relegarlo alla figura di un personaggio letterario inventato. Carofiglio è sicuramente un tecnico del diritto, le sue digressioni sul processo penale sono interessantissime (nonché molto utili) per chi si approccia al diritto da pochi anni, il tutto inserito in una prosa scorrevole e piacevole.

This is one of my favorite series and I love the lead character but the plot in this entry was pretty nonexistent. The narration of the audio by Sean Barrett was excellent and I did enjoy this outing but this would not be a good starting place if you have not read any of the previous books in the series.

Allora, lo dico subito perché altrimenti non sembra, questo libro mi è piaciuto. Più dell'altro di Carofiglio che ho letto, Testimone inconsapevole, perché per lo meno non finisce con un coitus interruptus.
Ciò detto, il dizionario definisce "pretensione" come "ostentazione di lusso, di raffinatezza, o più semplicemente ambizione di apparire di qualità o livello superiore". Sulla base di ciò, questo libro è pretenzioso. O, se non il libro, per lo meno il suo protagonista, l'avvocato Guido Guerrieri, che per tutto il corso del romanzo ha il terrore di risultare banale e praticamente non fa che rimproverare sé stesso ogni volta che viene colto da un pensiero o un impulso un filino troppo mainstream.
E questo è squisitamente ironico alla luce del fatto che i due personaggi femminili di rilievo della storia sono una prostituta redenta dal cuore d'oro e una ventenne disinibita e ben disposta a sedurre un uomo del doppio della sua età. Si tratta, oltre che di due fantasie masturbatorie da boomer, di personaggi già visti e già sentiti. Si potrebbe quasi dire sono personaggi "privi di originalità o di eccezionalità in quanto ormai noti ed estesi nell’uso comune" Che, guarda un po', sempre stando al dizionario è la definizione di banale.

Endlich wieder ein Roman mit Avvocato Guerrieri! Schon seit seinem ersten Fall bin ich immer wieder gerne mit dabei, wenn Guido durch Bari zieht und angeblich unmögliche Fälle übernimmt. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich auch die anderen Romane Carofiglios ausprobiert, aber nichts geht über jene mit Guido Guerrieri in der Hauptrolle.
Mir hat es dieser ruhige und besonnene Anwalt einfach angetan. Der Roman entwickelt sich bedächtig, man muss als Zeit und Geduld mitbringen. Aber das muss man bei vielen Italienern und genau das ist das Schöne an ihnen. In Italien ist immer Zeit für ein leckeres und umfangreiches Essen.
Doch wer das Tempo mit der Spannung verwechselt, hat sich vertan. Denn der Fall, der an Guido Guerrieri herangetragen wird, ist wirklich fesselnd. Ich selbst tappte lange in der Luft, verdächtige mal den, mal diesen, bezweifelte sogar kurz, ob dieser Roman überhaupt zu einem befriedigenden Ende kommen wird.
Aber Guerrieri weiss schon was er tut bzw. Carofiglio weiss, was er tut. Oder beide tun es. Denn obwohl Guerrieri Anwalt ist und beiweite kein Privatermittler, so kommt er doch dem Fall Stück für Stück näher. Mehr will ich aber auch gar nicht verraten, ansonsten geht zu viel verloren.
Ich habe jede Seite in diesem Buch genossen, jede Sekunde an Guerrieris Seite. Er ist einer der Figuren, die ich gerne zum Freund hätte. Guido ist verlässlich, immer da, ein tiefgründiger Charakter, der nichts überstürzt. Ihm fällt nicht alles in die Hände, er muss für seinen Erfolg arbeiten und auch Rückschläge einstecken. Ein Mensch mit Stärken und Schwächen. In meinen Augen hat Carofilgio mit seinem Helden einen der glaubhaftesten und realsten Buchfiguren geschaffen, denen ich bisher begegnen durfte.
Ja, ich freue mich schon auf das nächste Treffen mit Guido.

70% Guerrieri che se ne va in giro, chiacchiera con persone che non avrebbe voluto incontrate per strada e si ricorda della sua infanzia e vita da laurendo

Insomma, un po’ come sempre: personaggi che vanno e vengono, poco delineati ma tuttalpiù simpatici dai, fine prevedibile e tanto ma TANTO di quel tirare per le lunghe di Carofiglio che dopo un po’ annoia sempre.
Il libro era lungo ma quello che mi è restato poco.

Insomma, un po’ come sempre: personaggi che vanno e vengono, poco delineati ma tuttalpiù simpatici dai, fine prevedibile e tanto ma TANTO di quel tirare per le lunghe di Carofiglio che dopo un po’ annoia sempre.
Il libro era lungo ma quello che mi è restato poco.
