I reaaaaaally wanted to like this book, since this is the last book and supposedly the one that's supposed to rip your heart out. HOWEVER, I didn't enjoy this. I enjoyed the fighting sequences, the prophecy being fulfilled, the side characters.

What i didn't like:
Tric - he came back for literally nothing. He added 0 value which saddens me because he was my favorite. He was a doormat. And one of the reasons why I hate love triangles is for this reason. He was treated badly and ignored most of the time. He came back for Mia only to be dismissed.
Ash - never liked her, never will. Her relationship with Mia didn't make sense to me imo. I really tried liking her, but I couldn't. And in this book? My dislike for her was set - she was really annoying. And her jabs at Tric? Also didn't make sense to me. Like zero remorse for what she did, except for the last bit where she realized what she did was awful and started crying? Again, didn't make sense.
The ending - ummmm.. I was promised a heartbreak. I didn't get one. Instead - there was some sort of HEA? The whole point on ramping up book 1 and 2 was in preparation for what's to come in book 3. Jay is known for being brutal in his writing, so to get something opposite to what we got was a shock and not in a good way.

Everything else in this book was awesome. I just didn't enjoy the relationship with Ash and Tric and the way it was executed - which took up the majority of the book for me.

I AM SO SAD THIS SERIES IS OVER! Fml I loved it so much. This series was so different from any other that I have read before.

I loved this book so much, it was the perfect series finale, and (controversial opinion alert) the last 100 pages or so took it to a whole new level for me.

The writing is unique and so good, and I feel like that's a big reason why I've loved this series from the start. The narrator makes the whole book way more entertaining, and the way [a:Jay Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] keeps making fun of his own writing in this one was absolutely hilarious ("what kind of wanker writes a novel with footnotes?"). Another thing I'm always raving about: it's so filthy and brutal and, like, obscene? I can't find the word I'm looking for. Rough? Vulgar? There is so much sex and swearing and gore, and that gives off a certain vibe that does so much for the worldbuilding. I love it.

As for the rest of the worldbuilding, it's great. The three suns and the universe stuff as well as that it's so heavily inspired by the roman empire. We have fun words, like arkemy and mekwerk. The magic (sorry, magik) system is so intricate and well done. The political aspects are really interesting, and the lore is super fucking fascinating. I love fantasy worlds where people are religious and the gods actually exist, for some reason.

I love all the characters so much. Mercurio and Jonnen and Cloud and BigJon and the gladiatii... so many lovely people (that can make me sad whEN THEY DIE KRISTOFF STOP). My one complaint is that the love triangle was very much unnecessary. We have enough drama as it is.

The plot is INTENSE at times, so much action, I was stressed. I only cried once (
SpoilerYou'd think it was when the main character dies, but no, apparently I care more about Eclipse than about Mia
), but I wanted to cry pretty much the entire time. I've seen people have very varied opinions when it comes to the ending, but personally I thought it was absolutely perfect. Literally could not have imagined the series ending in any other way, and I was so afraid I was going to be disappointed. 10/10, among the better endings I've read. And the themes?? Love and family and stuff. I'm feeling so many feelings.

It took me way longer than it should have to finish Darkdawn, but that's because I was in a reading slump when I started. I'm not anymore <3

This has everything I've come to love and expect from this trilogy: sarcasm, sex, stabbiness, and so much heartbreak!

It's hard to review final books in series for spoiler reasons, so I'll keep this short:

Kristoff says he doesn't believe in happy endings, but for me, this ending was perfect.

(then again, I don't believe in happy endings for happy endings' sake either. Make of that what you will.)

Well if you want nonstop action then Jay Kristoff knows how to write it.

Obviously, if you've come this far with the series then you know that there's a lot of death and surprisingly, to say how few characters are remaining there's still a lot of it happening. There were multiple action packed scenes throughout but the end conflict scene definitely felt rushed. I wanted to see more pan out but Jay Kristoff is good at pulling at the heart strings with certain characters.

Now that ending. No, didn't like it. I can appreciate how well written it is and the fact that it's literally mentioned at the beginning of Nevernight, so I expected it but I didn't expect the additional bit. To say I despise one of the characters is putting it lightly and I didn't like the outcome that happened at the end. This probably tainted the whole series for me because of this one character. I just couldn't get over it!

Overall its a great series but I wouldn't go rushing to read it again.

Love this series... Holter Graham is spectacular!!
