Okay.... here's the thing - the overall story, the side characters (save one), the dynamics between them, their growth, their relationships, their trials and tribulations- are all fantastic. But I just cannot get over End rant.
So question is what to rate this? If all that was mentioned in my spoiler tag wasn't there, I'd say 4.5 stars easily. Now? 3? 3.5? Ugh it makes me mad that I have to debate this.
Spoiler
Ashlinn. I do NOT LIKE HER. I found myself dreading the majority of her scenes. She was so freaking rude to Tric. SHE MURDERED HIM. How are we expected to so easily forgive that? Aye killers one killers all but not killing your friends or friends lovers. And she kept talking about how Tric killed the innocent kid to become a blade like it was some big deal and that somehow cancelled out the fact she killed him but um, SHE WAS A BLADE TOO? So she also killed an innocent kid. I don't know. I hate her and her scenes and the romance between her and Mia was just so unnecessary like it wasn't needed. Mia could have gone on to be badass and save the world with out that whole falling in love with the murderer of her previous lover thing. I already hated love triangles and this love triangle is even worse. So question is what to rate this? If all that was mentioned in my spoiler tag wasn't there, I'd say 4.5 stars easily. Now? 3? 3.5? Идеята за книга в книгата е страхотна. Всичко е толкова добре замислено и заплетено, че просто е брилянтно
There are few series that finish as well as they start. There are few authors who can write really murder-y, morally very dark gray characters that you end up rooting for. This author has accomplished both with this finale.
I was legitimately terrified of this book. Mr Kristoff reminded us all that we all knew how this book was going to end. The first page of the first book tells us that Mia is going to die. And that she is probably going to deserve it. And yet, you find yourself admiring this stabby bitch as she attempts to take everyone down that has fucked up her life. She is ruthless, occasionally heartless, and always fearless.
If you need to have a redemption arc, this series is not for you. If you need your heroine to have a solid, understandable reason for all her decisions, this series is not for you. If you don’t like footnote and If you do not like untrustworthy narrators, this series is really not for you.
I can find no fault with how this story ended. I expected to be gutted but I really want to blast some Disturbed and stomp around in my black Doc Martens with really dark eyeliner and severely cut bangs to celebrate the awesomeness of Mia and all her murder-y glory.
Jay Kristoff’s writing is as sharp as the edge of the knives Mia occasionally wields. He doesn’t waste words. You can see every single person, place, fight, in this book. Even when you don’t have all the information you need. Even when someone does something that you really hoped they wouldn’t. Even when someone does something out of character and then does something treacherous. You can go back and find where he told you all you needed to know except you decided he didn’t really mean it. He is a master of misdirection. He doesn’t lie, he just convinces you not to believe the truth. At this point, I’m fairly certain I would read Twilight fan fic if he wrote it. And if you know me, that is the ultimate compliment ever.

“I am a daughter of the dark between the stars. I am the thought that wakes the bastards of this world sweating in the nevernight. I am the vengeance of every orphaned daughter, every murdered mother, every bastard son… -I am the war you cannot win”.
Overall this was bloody fantastic! (And I legit mean bloody, like there was lots and lots of blood) and the ending sequence omg … *chefs kiss.
4.5/5 ⭐️

- An enjoyable trilogy with action, found family and heart.
- I have long had the feeling of Mia as a protagonist being a woman written by a man for other men - depends on your tastes whether you will like this or not!
- If you enjoyed this and want a different, mature take on similar tropes, I recommend the "Book of the Ancestor" series by Mark Lawrence.
Nevernight review!
‘But to live in the hearts of those we leave behind is to never die. And to burn in the memories of our friends is to never say goodbye. So let me say this instead.
Goodnight, gentlefriend. Goodnight.
Never flinch.
Never fear.
And never, ever forget.’
The last couple days I’ve done nothing but eat , sleep and breathe the #Nevernight chronicles. Jay Kristoff has a unique writing technique, it takes some adjusting but once you get there you won’t be able to look away. Who puts footnotes into a novel anyway?
While I’m being honest here it did take me 3 attempts to really get into these books. I saw a review saying give it 50 pages and that’s what I did. By page 49 I was hooked. Maybe the style just clicked?
In the end who you will fall in love with the main character Mia. I mean who doesn’t love an assassin who’s cusses more than a pirate and is deadlier than death hisself? A woman who takes being called c**t a compliment is a woman after my own heart.
