Overall I am a little disappointed with this book. It was my least favorite in the series, I just felt like it wasn’t on the same level as the other 2. I will tell you why not, but first let me tell you why this series is freaking amazing.
Spoilersss!
This series… I just match with it for some reason. It opened my eyes to adult books and made me realize I connect with it much better then ya. The most important reason why I loved this so much was the writing style. I am a little over the fading to black sex scenes (which I seem to be one of the only ones to mind), the never talking about blood and gore (that is certainly there when someone is killed), the never cussing and certainly never killing of main characters. And I loved how Jay is just making fun of himself. I matched with the footnotes and the writing style. I loved the overall story line and I want so much more of it.
I love how during these series we actually build an army. How more and more characters are added with so many different back grounds and believes; assassin’s, gladiatii, pirates. I think I loved every single one of those and was heartbroken with their fates. I loved how funny this book was. The world was outstanding! I loved the magic, the gods, the places, the creatures, the daemons, the darken! I am really hoping for a spin of series!!
I loved Mia, she was perfect for this story. I also seem to be the only one that is okey with her and Ashlinn. I loved the side story about the pirates. I wish there was more of that. Loved to find out why Coleone bet on Mia, why he helped her. It made me cry. Loved the Mr. Kindley story, Eclipse broke my heart. I also really liked the stories with the gods. I loved Chleo and Mia’s dual.
Well now for the things that made this book… not 5 stars.
The most important thing for this was because I wasn’t as invested in this book as I was in the others. I am not 100% sure why this was but this book took me almost a month to listen to the audiobook and I just felt like it was endless.. There is not a particular reason for this I think. It might have to do with that school started and that took up all my time. But when I had the chance to relax and choose between music and audiobook on my bike, I always chose music. I felt like the plot wasn’t really moving for some reason. It just missed some overall tension and arc between the different plot points that would have made it more interesting and coherent. And no I can’t tell you what.
I didn’t like Johnen. And while he wasn’t written to be likable, I feel like I was constantly conflicted about why Mia wanted to save him. This became such a big part of the plot and driving force of Mia, that I became conflicted. Especially after he started growing on me toward the end of this book because he became friends with Butcher, Naev and Eclipse, but then when his father shows up he doesn’t even try to save his friends when he did have that chance with Eclipse. I know he Is 9, I know he was brought up by his father, but I just could not deal with that scene: have you ever tried to take away a 9 year olds child toy? No? Well try.
I did not like the ending. I really, really disliked everyone coming back to life and just live happily ever after. I HATED IT. Readers were told that the mc would die from the first page of the book, and I felt like it was a complete cope out to just bring her AND her love interest back to life to live happily ever after. I just hate when this happens. I really, really do!! I also didn’t like that Ash got brought back to life. This took away so much of the magic from what happened with Trick. This was all a complete NO for me, like bring everyone back and not pretend these 3 books ever happened?
The other part of the ending was a bit predictable to be honest… It was well written, and spectacular, but I missed some final twists to be honest… Especially from Jay Kristoff. So that was a little disappointing.

Grand finalas įvyko, kraujai taškėsi, stichijos siautė, galvos ritosi - kam reikia ir kam nereikia, bet gėris nugalėjo. Labai patiko piratinė dalis. Tik po nerealiai susuktos antros serijos dalies finale pasigedau netikėtų siužeto posūkių, ir meilės trikampio linija galėjo užiimti mažiau vietos istorijoje. O šiaip puikiai - humoras, dialogai, veikėjai, worldbuildingas, įgarsinimas ir net išnašos.
